Sheppard Hopes to Return for Final Game
From Jim Baumbach: Everyone knows the only fitting way to close Yankee Stadium is with Bob Sheppard returning to be the public-address announcer for the final game. His health has kept him from doing a single Yankees game this season - which would have been his 58th - but rest assured he has visions of returning for the finale. "If I can be there, I shall be there." That's what he said by phone Thursday morning from his Baldwin home, and he spoke those words using the same tone, diction and... Read Full Story
Florida Fans Are A Joke
What's wrong with Floridians? They have two good baseball teams (one very good team) and these people still don't seem to care at all. Tampa Bay has one of the best records in baseball, are in first place, and still can't draw any fans. In the last two games against our Yankees, Tampa has drawn 21,629 and 25,215 fans. They're in the middle of a pennant race in September and can't even draw 30,000 fans for a game against the Yankees? What's wrong with these people? The Rays are 26th in the... Read Full Story
Nice Job Jason
From George A. King III (hat tip to Steve Lombardi): Jason Giambi wishes he had a sexier story to explain the gash on the corner of his right eyelid that cause discoloring and swelling. "I would like to have something to tell you, something like a fight or anything else," Giambi said. "But it was nothing like that. I walked into the bathroom door at the hotel and split it open." The cut resembled a gash a boxer would get during a fight, but didn't keep Giambi out of the lineup. "There... Read Full Story

Girardi Sticking With Ponson
From Mark Feinsand: Sidney Ponson has been brutal in his last three starts, yet when the Yankees take the field Saturday in Seattle, the 31-year-old righthander will be back on the mound. Ponson's job is secure, according to manager Joe Girardi, even though he has allowed 24 hits and six walks in his last 9-2/3innings over three starts, posting a 15.84 ERA in that stretch. "Right now, our rotation is what it is," Girardi said. "We haven't talked about any changes." "Sidney has done it before... Read Full Story
Hank and Hal Want Cashman Back
From George A. King III: Hal and Hank Steinbrenner agree they want Brian Cashman back as the Yankees' GM, The Post has learned. According to a MLB source, the Steinbrenner family has decided Cashman is the man to lead the organization back from a nightmarish season that will end with the Yankees missing playoffs for the first time since 1993. Cashman, who last week shouldered the blame for the dismal season, met with Hal and Hank yesterday at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa. No contract offer... Read Full Story
Oh no, not this s*** again
From Tyler Kepner: It is all about the math with Joba Chamberlain, and the math does not add up for him to open next season in the Yankees’ starting rotation.“He had an innings limit this year he didn’t meet,” General Manager Brian Cashman said. “Will he exceed that innings limit next year? You wouldn’t want to do that. You’ve still got to protect the player.” Cashman stressed that the Yankees had not discussed the specifics of next season’s plan for Chamberlain. But he was scheduled to... Read Full Story
