Is Michael Phelps over hyped??

I completely understand all the drama unfolding in Beijing with Phelps but I am hearing all these talk show hosts saying he is a top 5 athlete of all time and how great of a legacy he is leaving. After having already tying Spitz's record of 7 Golds at one olympics and probably going to nail down number 8 his standing in the swimming community has to be at the top of the list! And definitely deserves to be called King of the pool!!!



But then where does he rate in the overall scheme of athletes ever? Top 5 No fricking way he is top 5 talent of all time ! Are you telling me he deserves to be thought of above Babe Ruth, Michael Jordan, Walter Payton, Muhammed Ali,Lou Gherig and Tiger Woods because if he is top 5 all time at leats one of these guys get left off the list and I did'nt even mention Wilt Chamberlain, or Sandy Koufax are you seriously leaving these guys off the list?

Before these games began where did Spitz stand on the list I'm sure if you made out a list of the top 250 athletes sometimes he still was not even mentioned huh.. you know why? Because in the vast scheme of all time athletes swimming doen't get much consideration so how all of a sudden does it become a top 5 athlete of all time?




I say congrats to Phelps on your accomplishment it is quite a amazing feat and I bow to you as all time swimmer but sorry you still don't even land in my top 50!
