Picture of the Harpers from AJC newspaper
Have you ever heard the proverb, “Money in the hands of a fool is soon departed”? Well it is indeed true. That parable comes from a scripture in the bible.
Most of you are familiar with the show, Extreme Makeover. Back in 2005 the Harper family won an extreme makeover home, beating out 15,000 applicants. In addition, they were given enough money to pay taxes on it for 25 years.
These people were on easy street. All they had to do was... Read Full Story
Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away (Luke 21:33)
More than 1,600 years after it was written in Greek, one of the oldest copies of the Bible will become globally accessible online for the first time this week.
From Thursday, sections of the Codex Sinaiticus, which contains the oldest complete New Testament, will be available on the Internet, said the University of Leipzig, one of the four curators of the ancient text worldwide.

I came across this story earlier and even read it on Blackpoliticalthought’s blog. This is indeed a sad story about a family caught up in the foreclosure crisis, which both Lynn and myself have previously blogged about.
Carlene Balderrama, a 53-year-old wife and mother, fatally shot herself with her husband’s gun 90 minutes before their home was scheduled to be auctioned off.
Police say that Balderrama fatally shot herself Tuesday afternoon, 90 minutes before her... Read Full Story

I’ve been following, as much as possible, Soledad O’Brien’s special on black America. I hope she wins an Emmy for that, as it’s superb. My husband just sent me an article about a woman who was highlighted in the special.
Maryann Reid is making it her business to encourage a return to marriage in the black community. I LOVE it. What this woman is doing and what Soledad is doing far exceeds what Tavis Smiley is doing. His State of the Black Union nonsense renders nothing. It’s... Read Full Story

Do you all remember the “Youtube Divorce Lady”? Of course you do. Sometimes I will immediately highlight an attention whore. But if I’m dealing with an “off the hook”, “first class” attention whore, I’ll purposely hold off before highlighting them here and giving them more of what they crave—attention.
Well, I am happy to report that Trishia Walsh-Smith, who humiliated her husband via her series of YouTube videos, has lost her case and lost in her attempt to clean out the... Read Full Story

Nas has been on my “X” list since that fiasco with him trying to name his album “Nigger”. He sank deeper into my list when I heard him supporting “no snitching”.
I’m happy to see him confronting “Sly Fox”…that is, Black America’s enemy station Faux News….um, I mean “Fox News”.
And I’d be even happier to see him confronting his fellow rappers for their disrespect of women, particular black women via their filthy names. Furthermore, I’d like to see Nas speak out against “no... Read Full Story
