Canada is a very young country when compared to the vast history that comes from the north of Africa, from China, from Russia and from Europe. When our forefathers came from Europe, they landed in a country with extremes – cold, hot, insects, and drought. Through it all, they persevered. I am grateful for their dedication. Read Full Story
For the past several weeks, every time I am by myself, I seem to see this small, grey moth. She sits on the wall, either beside my desk, or beside my bed, or on the wall by the window in the kitchen. I feel like she is a guardian of sorts. What makes this very interesting, is that this moth is usually only seen in May to July, in boreal forests. Now, given that we live close to Fish Creek Park, it seems that this moth could easily have ridden home on my clothes or on o... Read Full Story
I am a baby boomer, as are many of my friends. Now, when we meet, one of the first topics of conversation is “how are your parents” (or mother or father). It seems like many of us are having the experience of loved ones and friends dying. Often, death may seem like a blessing because the person has had an illness that debilitates and causes the family to feel helpless. Read Full Story
The full moon aspect of November is called “The Snow Moon”. As a full moon is always about completion and the sign that something new will start, the name of the moon time is appropriate because northern farmers have completed bringing in their crops (although this year, some are still harvesting corn on the prairies), and the ground has been tilled in preparation for next year. The snow that comes, blankets the ground and will be the first source of moisture to awaken... Read Full Story
November waltzes in on the heels of All Hallows‘ Eve or Halloween. In Celtic and Nordic tradition, this was a time to celebrate the end of the harvest and to put some seeds and grain out at the shrine for those members of the family that have died. Roger and I have two dogs, Magic and Sage, and two fish. Right now, we also have two Abyssinian cats living with us who are our guests until Christmas. This is a picture of me, with our dogs, taken last fall by our friend, Caroline. Sage and Magic are the two reasons that we get lots of exercise, that we have many reasons to laugh, and they are the best example of unconditional love that I know of. Knowing my passion for animals, my friends send me animal stories all the t... Read Full Story
“My oven was dirty. It is not self cleaning, and that fact is one of the reasons that I really would like to receive a new oven into my life.” These were the thoughts that rolled through my mind as I sprayed Easy Off Oven Cleaner into my dark, cold oven. The smell set off my olfactory sensory organs, driving them into overtime work. My nose began to run. I really do not like cleaning the oven. This negative energy that I created stayed with m... This story appeared in my email, and then the next day, while talking with my girlfriend in my session (healing) room, a dove’s feather dropped between us. I started to tingle. Dove stuff two days in a row! Dove had something important to say. First, he was saying – let there be peace. Second, his message was about one of the Universe’s Laws – keep safe the children. Noah instinctively knew that the bunnies were helpless, and that they ne... Read Full Story

Blue Jay finds this time of year amusing because humans, in general, do not appreciate the passing of the seasons. For Blue Jay, foraging becomes easier because the competition is reduced as so many birds fly south. Although squirrels do compete for the succulent morsels of sunflower seeds, early birds do get the seeds! Read Full Story
