Cheerios with fresh peaches

There they were in all their peach fuzz splendor. Waiting to be washed and diced into a big bowl of Cheerios. It was then I heard this loud chirping coming from the window by the kitchen table. Pulling back the curtain exposed a little brown and yellow bird no bigger than a salt shaker. He was looking directly at me and leaning forward as he chirped away. His little feet were bobbing up and down and I wondered was this a carrier pigeon in disguise? The peaches were very tasty indeed. Read Full Story

I had never watched The Lion In Winter" all the way though before but gave it second try just a few days ago. Katherine Hepburn had her wattles tightly bound and Peter O'Toole was looking twice his age. This is one of those movies that your can play a computer game and just listen to the dialogue and when Hepburn said her memorible, "every family has its ups and downs", a vague thought came to mind. Google would surely have that line and of course it does but how about trying to come up with... Read Full Story
The Bee Keepers Daughter

This time of the year is when I often think of a young girl from years past. The occasional sight of a freckled faced girl or the scent of gardenias has deemed that her memory will last.  There were others that made my head turn but the honey part is what made her so unique. She would bring a jar of her daddy's honey each time she came to art class. It was a bit of a distraction but a sweet one just the same. The instructor once used her as the live model and I did a pretty good charcoal... Read Full Story
Today I met this inchworm

Today I met this inchworm, inching along a tile floor. He was doing a fine job of staying on the line and measuring each step and looked as though he knew what he was doing as he swung mightily from one mortar groove to the next in a complex twist and turn from one corner to the next. His calibrations were right on as he gauged each swing to match exactly one quarter the length from corner to corner of a tile. With each successful maneuver he would rise up and look around so as to see just... Read Full Story

In late 2006, I posted a paragraph or two about Rufus Gray:  http://curbsideview.blogspot.com/2006/12/funeral-at-sanitarium.html The other day I was thinking about  those far a way times and made a picture request for Rufus at the Find A Grave website. There appeared a grassy space where his marker should have been. http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=18304820 Often you see a marker and wonder about the name behind the memorial. It is not that often you get to know the name... Read Full Story

Scroll down for the Shaving Tip. For all the rest, here is what has been happening lately. The short story project There is a nice lady that is willing to edit the book of short stories. She is a writer herself and although a technician, may be able to do the collection some justice.  The project is helpful to her, I hope. Camera club news The local camera club is a bust and a waste of time as the poor gullible  person that started the  thing, two years ago, has been slipping in and out of... Read Full Story

The Jacksonville Zoo is located on the river and some of the scenes of scrub oaks and Spanish moss will look familiar to the locals. What I found was some great shots of the familiar along with a few shots of the exotic. Read Full Story
Kingsley Plantation

Two and a half years ago I had thrown together a little post about Kingsley Plantation . I had attempted to use some photos off the web but the owners felt a little reticent about sharing so I have been waiting for a chance to make the trip and do my own photography. The main house is closed for renovation but the kitchen house and a combination carriage house/chapel is open. One and a half miles of winding dirt road leads to the plantation. The ruins of slave quarters are on both side of the... Read Full Story
A Trip To The Zoo

I had put it off until the weather was cooler, this trip to the zoo. With over 150 shots, these were the only real keepers in the bunch. Later I may upload in this same post some of the scenery shots that are worth your time and interest. The problem was the next stop on this trip. The Kingsley plantation update that was to follow the same day. In the hast to finish up at the zoo and drive the 18 miles to the plantation before loosing the light and beating the rush hour traffic, I was not... Read Full Story
