Kendrick House The town dentist Dr. Ivey Kendrick and his wife Myrtle built this two-story vernacular boarding house in 1905. At the turn of the century, it was billed as “quite a favorite with the traveling public," and was operated by Archibald and Berta Avriett. At one time in Europe, this river scene was considered a toll to be considered as you traveled through the land of many terrors. The forest then was the abode of dark and dreadful creatures lurking high in the overhead canopy or in the mossy underground, waiting to grab some poor unwary traveler by the ankles and bash his or her noggin against the trunk of a cypress tree. I love old things and will build up an imaginary history for an old deserted building. Take this small red building for instance. There are two front doors or at least it appears that way? I will not ask the obvious but tell a one sentence story about the old fellow that once lived in this little red house at the top of the hill. The couple that bought this house and did the redo, are from south Florida where these bright colors are the norm. McCallum House This 13 room Mediterranean revival home was built in 1925 by Hayes Shipman McCallum’s widow, Nellie, after her large two story home burned in nearby Facil. This stucco home is the only Mediterranean revival style building found in White Springs and was originally topped with handsome Spanish tile. White Springs Historical Structures # 17
DeLegal House This Georgian style two story home was built in 1910 and features a traditional porch with railing. Suwannee River limestone lines the foundation and also serves as porch pillars. There were double fireplaces inside and there is a sleeping balcony on the rear upstairs bedroom. Luther M. DeLegal was the proprietor of a local general store. This Home is now a commercial property and is also known locally as the “Jay Smith house” after one of its former residents. Read Full Story
