Doing Nothing
Not doing anything at all is one of the hardest things for me. I always want to feel like I’m making progress, moving forward. Just being without doing is not as easy as it sounds, but it is important to our wellbeing and essential to our spiritual growth.
There are times when doing nothing is the most valuable thing we can do. When I have so much to do that I don’t know what to do or when things get chaotic in my life, that’s a good time to just be still. Even my busy thinking needs to be still. Bringing in something new or letting go of something old also requires a period of stillness to let the body/mind organism adjust to the changes.
I’ve done a lot of clearing and releasing lately, which feels awesome! I’m so happy and grateful to be able to finally clear out some of the old beliefs and programs. What I’ve found though is that after the initial rush of energy, there is a time of calm when I need to rest and be still. No matter what I think I need to do, my instincts tell me to just sit with silence and do nothing, not even think.
I’m beginning to appreciate silence and stillness like never before. It feels soft, relaxed, peaceful, and expansive. I feel a greater sense of the sacred in little ordinary things. My heart feels open and clear, its boundaries softened and relaxed. The hustle and bustle of life outside my door fades into the background as simple beingness becomes the most important thing in the moment. When the time to act comes I am simply inspired and energized to get up and do what needs to be done.
Honoring the call to silence has some amazing rewards. It brings us into harmony with divine timing. It opens us to see the beauty around us, and to appreciate it. It also opens us to greater inspiration that can guide us to be more effective in all areas of our lives. We can’t force the time for silence, but we can accept and honor it when it comes. In those moments, nothing is more rewarding than doing nothing at all.
