Hey I Like This!

It’s no secret. I like the radio. Here in Los Angeles, I am a frequenter of Indie103 and KROQ; but you will see stumbling over to KIIS-FM from time to time. I’ve actually found some decent tunes rummaging through the radio waves during horrendous traffic jams. Here are some of the tunes that have me pumping up the volume when they come on (multiple times a day)!

Lil’ Mama ft. Chris Brown & T-Pain - Shawty Get Loose

I really don’t want to know what the title is referring to, but rather pay attention to the buzzing, almost twirling, attention-grabbing back-break beats. I’ve always liked Lil’ Mama, ever since I heard her in “Lip Gloss” and that “Girlfriend Remix”. She has some serious flow and great vocal presence. “Sawty Get Loose” almost reminds me of a better version of Chris Brown and T-Pain’s “Kiss Kiss”. I guess Lil’ Mama has a knack of making craptastic, catchy pop songs turn into such earcandy (see: Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend” remix). Lil Mama’s debut Voice of the Young People came out yesterday. There are a few good tracks on it. Check it out.

Phantom Planet - Do The Panic

Phantom Planet have come a long way haven’t they? Even as a Jason Schwartzman-less four-piece set, Phantom Planet are always apt to surprise their fans on each of their releases. Their latest release Raise The Dead is their more eclectic release to date. Showing terrific range, throwing in some Bowie glam in some parts and disco punk in others, the band’s fourth album acts as a sweet buffer between Surfer rock and indie cali-pop. “Do The Panic” is getting limited radio play on KROQ (heard it once) and sparing performance on Star — but it’s one of my favorite radio sing-alongs, at the moment. This song is just second in sing-along-catchiness to…

Miley Cyrus - See You Again

God, this song is overplayed. I know this, trust me, I hear it at least 4 times a day on the radio. I’m not really complaining though. I like this song, a lot. I even know all the words! I’m not too embarrassed to say it, either! I can see why people would bust their tails to try and get tickets to see this 15 year old sing this song live, its catchy as hell. Probably my favorite song on the radio right now.

The Ting Tings - Shut Up and Let Me Go

The new single off the Ting Ting’s debut album We Started Nothing (out May 20th), “Shut Up and Let Me Go” will be the next song to be subjected to mass-hysteria and wold-fame. And all because of a little commercial. (see: CSS’ “Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex”, Feist’s “1234″, and Yael Naim’s “New Soul”). I wonder when Apple will get smart and star their own label for this ish? Anyway, KROQ and Indie103 have been quick on the draw and are playing this song non-stop. The masses seem to love this song, and I am growing rather fond of it.

Metro Station - Shake It

Don’t you love Myspace success stories? It almost makes me feel I can become rich famous a fad just by simply creating an online profile and posting some demos up. Almost the same way Fall Out Boy and the Gym Class Heroes started to pick up dust, Metro Station started at the top of Myspace’s Unsigned Artists chart and worked their way from there — landing themselves on Top 40, Pop, and Alternative radio formats (and as one of the fastest growing tracks, too). It’s pretty impressive when you think about it. The song in question, “Shake It”, is… indescribable. Ok, I will attempt to describe it. Three words: Disney. Hipster. Rock., say it together, disney hipster rock. I guess what that means is, one step above the Jonas Brothers, where people over the age of 14 can enjoy the music. You heard it here first ladies and gents, Metro Station are Jonas Brothers on metrosexual steroids.

Busta Rhymes ft. Linkin Park - We Made It

I actually only caught the last minute or two of the song on Power106 the other day, so I had to look it up on these interwebs. Here’s what I the ejumacation I gotted from the pop blogs.

1. the song is called “We Made It”

2. Linkin Park is in it

3. Busta Rhymes successfully blends hip-hop and rock

4. Linkin Park apparent have never done that before…

5. These poppy bloggers are 14 years old (on average), and cant really remember anything that happened in music before High School Musical.
