If you’re following me on Twitter, you probably noticed an “interesting” message inviting you to watch a webcam. That’s all I’m going to say about that.

This was not me.

That message went out within my knowledge. And it’s possible something like this could happen to you.

So, what do you do if your twitter account is hacked?

1. Change your password. The first thing I did was change my Twitter password to something even more secure than the first one. If you’d like to select a really tough password, you can use a random password generator. The one at PC Tools is my favorite.
2. Check any accounts you have tied to Twitter. If you’re using Ping.fm, TwitterFeed, orany other service to tie your twitter account into your other social networking sites, check them to make sure they weren’t hacked as well, or that the hack didn’t orignate with them.
3. Update your passwords with other services. While you’re checking those other services, change your twitter password with them so that your network continues to function.
4. Delete the offending tweets. If you don’t know it already, you can delete your tweets. I deleted mine directly from Twitter, and then also had to delete them out of Digsby.
5. Be careful who you trust. In the future, be careful of Twitter-related services that you sign up for and give your Twitter credentials to.
