The Anti-Choice Movement’s Conflict of Interest
As is often the case, when I started the research for this post I was headed in an entirely different direction.  I had just finished reading The Family and was intrigued by a possible connection between The Family and Abstinence Clearinghouse.  As I researched Abstinence Clearinghouse I found a connection to Alpha Center, a crisis pregnancy center.  I  discovered a thread of  self- serving ideas and organizations espousing the anti-abortion, anti-birth control and pro-abstinence positions as... American Workers are Overpaid
Not CEO’s, but American workers are overpaid?  I’m sorry, this struck me as funny in a sick sort of way. American workers are overpaid, relative to equally productive employees elsewhere doing the same work. If the global economy is to get into balance, that gap must close. Of course, workers in the United States should earn more than their peers in China, Moldova or Vietnam. Americans take advantage of the higher productivity that makes their country rich: better education and in... Read Full Story

Where’s the Birth Control?
Viagra? Yes. Birth control? No How shortsighted is it to not require birth control coverage in insurance plans while at the same time claiming to want to cut the number of abortions performed each year?  Are women really expected to give up sex or have a baby every year or so? Why must women always have to fight to get the rights men take for granted?  Insurance companies regularly discriminate against women: A 22-year-old woman can be charged one and a half times the premium of a 22-year-... Obama wants his war options changed
President Obama has been criticized for dragging his feet on the Afghanistan decision, but I think he should take whatever time he needs to gather all the facts and opinions he can concerning troop buildup.  Presidents often say that making the decision to send troops into harm’s way is the hardest decision they have to  make, yet so often it seems like it is a given when a general requests more troops. I have no idea what Obama will eventually decide to do, but taking the time to make ... Read Full Story
Video: Jon Stewart catches Sean Hannity doctoring a report
“The Daily Show,” which has become one of the media’s prime monitors when it comes to calling out misuse or manipulation of video, caught the Fox News Channel and one of its hosts, Sean Hannity, Tuesday night, in what appeared to be a blatant example of doctoring a report with inappropriate video to enhance an argument. Concerning Guest Author Skyagunsta
Recently I was left a comment accusing both me and Skyagunsta of plagiarism. Skyagunsta is a pen name and the author Skyagunsta also uses the pen name Elena Dumas. Both are the same person using pen names  for security and privacy reasons. Because Skyagunsta was known to readers of this blog as Skyagunsta, she continued to use that name for articles posted here but some of those articles also appeared elsewhere under the name Elena Dumas. Skyagunsta was known to me for a number of years un... Read Full Story
Blackwater approved payments in Iraq shooting
Yet another contractor acting badly.  While KBR used to be a division of Halliburton, Blackwater was subcontracted by Halliburton.   Rep. Waxman preveiously criticized the State Department’s handling of several incidents involving Blackwater where Blackwater paid off victims families rather than face an investigation, so this is a pattern of behavior by Blackwater. In 2007, Rep. Henry Waxman a vocal critic of the Iraq war, released details from Blackwater’s own reports of multip... Read Full Story
President Obama’s remarks at Fort Hood Memorial Service – video and transcript
In what is being hailed by some as President Obama’s best speech ever, President Obama addresses attendees of the Fort Hood Memorial Service. The President honors each and every one who died and condemned the act as murderous and craven. Chuck Todd: “That’s going to be a speech that’s remembered and quoted from for quite some time; struck a balance of commander and consoler; not easy.”SOURCE Here, at Fort Hood, we pay tribute to thirteen men and women who were n... KBR may have poisoned 100,000 people in Iraq
So many ways to rip off the government and so little time.  KBR, once again in the spotlight for yet more malfeasance.  Back in May we found that KBR was paid $80 million in bonuses for contracts to install electrical wiring in Iraq, wiring that electrocuted American soldiers.  Now we find they may have exposed 100,000 people to cancer causing toxins, among the  number are U.S. troops.  With “friends” like KBR, who needs enemies? Not only has KBR made a lot of money for performing... Read Full Story
