Open Up Pandora’s Box And Enjoy Some Personalized Internet Radio

While conducting a random “cool music websites” search, I came upon an interesting Internet radio site called, Pandora Radio at:

www.pandora.com

Upon arriving at Pandora, you are asked to select an artist, composer, or song title and the website will choose songs by that artist and also select other music that is similar to the artist, composer, or song that you selected. A “radio station” is therefore assembled and music begins instantly based on your initial selection.

You can create multiple stations and register with the site to save your stations.

My first selection for a radio station was the jazz pianist, Ramsey Lewis. The station opened with a Ramsey Lewis selection and the following couple of songs, by artists that I did not previously know, indeed sounded like Ramsey Lewis’ style of jazz and piano playing.

I then created a new station by selecting phenomenal New Age harpist, Andreas Vollenweider, and was treated to selections by Andreas, Enya, Tangerine Dream, and more.

I decided to give a song title selection a try for a third station and typed in “Chasing Pavements” by singer Adele. The first song that played was Adele’s beautiful, “Hometown Glory” followed by “The Scientist” by Coldplay, “Love Song” by Sara Bareilles (whom I had never heard of before), “Warwick Avenue” by Duffy, “Save Room” by John Legend, and more great music. The music all had similar acoustic instrument qualities and song phrasings.

I decided to register with the site and explore other things that the Pandora site had to offer. You can choose Internet radio stations by genre. You can access Pandora on your mobile phone and with certain home digital music systems without the use of a PC. There are a number of music-related videos that can watched at the Pandora site, as well.

You can even rate, with a thumbs up or thumbs down, each song in your personally created station. By doing so, your rating will affect if a song is played again or eliminated from your station. This way, you can ditch what you really don’t like with a simple thumbs down.

Although there are plenty of ways to listen to music on the Internet these days, I thought this was a very good site that tailors the music to your personal preferences without you having to think up a bunch of songs and it may even introduce you to some similar sounding artists that you have never heard before. You can even get more biographical information about the artists you are listening to with just a click of the mouse.

Give Pandora Internet radio a try. It’s free and the sound quality and songs choices are excellent!
