Comcast is carrying off a fun new communications initiative with tonight's Caps-Shark's game: a live chat hosted by the TV outlet and guest-starring Hershey Bears' radio voice John Walton. I'm pretty sure JW will be following the game from his hotel room on the road with the Bears, who visit Adirondack and Binghamton this weekend.
If you can't be in Verizon Center tonight, following the game on the Comcast TV broadcast and on line with JW ain't a bad plan B. I'll be in the Phone Bo... Read Full Story
Have you ever had someone leave you a flaming bag of poo on your porch? Before you know what's happened, you step on it to put out the flames only to be faced with an unpleasant byproduct... or eight fire engines.
In any case, the back-end blog platform was supposed to be changed overnight and things obviously went horribly wrong. MVN.com is working to fix the issues and make the transition later with less disruption.
We apologize for the problems this morning as well as the NY Gi... Read Full Story
I have plans to attend Abe Pollin's funeral, and for that occasion I may well wear a purple tuxedo. The
first time you walked into Verizon Center for an event, didn't you
wonder the same thing I did -- what's with the [expletive] purple
seats? Last week, Dan Steinberg wondered aloud as well. Some
of Steinz' readers offered the same explanation I do -- recollection at
the arena's opening that among the architectural details was
acknowledgment that Mrs. Abe Pollin's favorite color was purple. L... Read Full Story
On Monday night in Verizon Center I received a most unexpected email solicitation from the Great White North -- an invitation to blog for a Canadian sports site I'd never heard of, Fadoo.ca, part of the Canadian Prime Time Sports network. Fadoo was started earlier this year by Canadian television and radio sports personality Bob McCown, host of the FAN 590's Prime Time Sports, Canada's top-rated sports radio talk show. That program broadcasts nightly on the FAN 590 in Toronto and ac... Read Full Story
For the second year running, the Washington Capitals hosted their annual Season Ticket Holder "Meet the Caps" party at Six Flags America. Once again, the team provided fans with a night of fun for all ages. The timing of the event was impeccable -- a perfect Autumn evening, perhaps our last before a spate of rain and cold arriving tomorrow. The crowd was large and enthusiastic, though the autograph lines were far longer than those for the many rides. It's easy to forget how exhilarating a goo... Read Full Story

A little bit of sandpaper out on the ice, I think, might have helped the zone clearing cause during those 90-some-odd seconds that seemed like 90 minutes when five Capitals' skaters were powerless in the third period, clinging to a one-goal lead, to clear the puck from their end against New Jersey Monday night. The shift that ended up -- and didn't you just know it was coming! -- resulting in the game-tying goal. But there is no sandpaper -- well, certainly no sandpaper added from the o... Read Full Story
Yet another tough setback -- and another blown third period lead -- on Monday night, but Capitals' head coach Bruce Boudreau accentuated the positive in the post game with the press. His is a team, he said, that even despite its relatively veteran roster "has to learn to win again."
