According to Gwinnett County police, Mark Samoline, a UPS vice president, who was accused of raping a student at Indiana University, committed suicide Monday. Officers found Samoline, 50, dead in a room at the Residence Inn Marriott hotel in Norcross, Ga. Samoline was a U.S. Marine Corps. colonel and had worked at UPS since 1994. He was wearing his military uniform when his body was found by a hotel maid.

Comedian Katt Williams remains in custody in the Coweta County jail in Georgia on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing.
According to WSB-TV, a deputy at the jail confirmed the comedian is being held at the jail, and that a magistrate was expected to set bond at an arraignment Monday afternoon.

Sharon McDonough, 43, has been charged with animal cruelty after authorities uncovered a mass burial site for animals in her backyard. Iran has charged three detained U.S. citizens -- Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Jose Fattal, 27, with espionage. The three were held after they strayed into Iran from northern Iraq at the end of July. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said, "We believe strongly that there is no evidence to support any charge whatsoever." Under Iran's Islamic sharia law, espionage is punishable by death.

The US Supreme Court on Monday will consider whether sentencing a juvenile to life in prison without the possibility of parole for a non-homicide violates the Constitution's prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment. More athletes acting badly. Chicago Bears' defensive tackle Tommie Harris managed to break a record today. He got ejected four plays into the game. That was the quickest ejection in NFL history in recent memory. He earned his record by punching Cardinals' offensive tackle Deuce Lutui.
At the end of an Arizona running play, Harris and Lutui ended up on the ground and a replay showed Harris hitting Lutui near the face. The Bears got a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
