My goodness does this game look fantastic, aesthetically and gameplay-wise. I loved the original Mafia game, can’t wait to play this installment.

This masterful animated short film by Korean team MESAI really took my breath away. Gorgeous textures and lighting, wonderful animation, great soundscape and music, and really engaging storytelling too. And as far as I’m concerned, it’s a master’s class in terms of shot selection. The film is a SIGGRAPH 2009 juried pick; if you’re going to the event in New Orleans, don’t miss the chance to see this on a big screen. Thanks, Sisch, for the recommendation. You... Read Full Story

Pretend for a moment that this is not machinima. Pretend it’s not Second Life. Pretend it wasn’t filmed in one week with a $50 budget as a “clear out the cobwebs” exercise.
Would this animation be any less impressive if you didn’t now know these things about it? If you’d just stumbled across it on Motionographer or something (which is where it belongs).
Michael Nitsche recently brought up (again) whether machinima was art… or rather, (my paraphras... Read Full Story

Love the writing and overall presentation in this. Can you guess what business is circulating this as a commercial of sorts? I say can you guess, because the company is not mentioned anywhere on screen or in the audio. In fact, the only way to see any direct association with a company is to follow the URL they mention. I think it’s a brilliant lure, even a bit gutsy, since I’m sure somewhere at Company ABC is an exec scratching his head trying to figure out how this is going t... Read Full Story

I am very pleased to report that my films Blast Supper and Intervention are both nominees in the Machinima category this year at Bifilm Festival! These are two works from this year that I’m particularly proud of, so I couldn’t be happier to see them recognized. Who knows how they’ll fare in the Internet voting phase, I’ll be doing my best to rally your support when the time comes, but even if neither film takes a prize, I’m honored enough by their selection in ... When I moved into my current house a little over a year ago, I turned one of the spare bedrooms into an office / studio for working on sound, machinima, etc. Most of the time, interior walls in a single-family home do not get insulated, they’re just two sheets of drywall separated by studs made of either steel or wood depending on what climate you live in. Regardless, those standard walls do little to dampen noise from adjoining rooms. Below, I’m going to detail what I did to ... Read Full Story

Nukester first caught my attention with his movie, Temporary Night, and then again with his musical collaboration with Sisch that I featured in the overcast finale. And yes, I’m going through a phase where I’m fascinated by the expressive possibilities of machinima which has no dialogue (for deliberate reasons, not just laziness). But even so, this is a wonderful short, and represents his Moviestorm debut which caught the eye of their CEO. Bravo, Nukester, can’t wait to se... Read Full Story
