Ten years is a long time to wait for any movie, and it’s even worse for a sequel. With each passing year, the likelihood that it will be any good drops exponentially, while the expectations can only continue to rise. The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day was pushed back relentlessly, on top of repeated financial backing woes, as well as the release of a documentary (Overnight, which if you haven’t seen is definitely worth checking out) in which the filmmaker, Troy Duffy, is portr... The Raveonettes responded to the many harsh criticisms of their sophomore effort with 2007’s excellent Lust Lust Lust, a brazen return to the best qualities of their debut Chain Gang of Love. This time around, Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo reintroduce some of the rockabilly seen on the unfairly (though understandably) panned Pretty in Black and downplay the raw shoegazing noise rock sound that dominated its successor. The aims are admirable, but the result is a somewhat detached album... Read Full Story

It’s been three years since Wolfmother put out their stellar debut album. Some haven’t taken notice. Some wondered if Wolfmother were just flash-in-the-pan classic rock shucksters who were riding the retro garage throwback wave which as we all know came crashing down in late ‘07 (shortly before reports, still speculatory at that point of the fragility of our economy started to seep through). Rumors would run rampant. Had they broken up? I heard somewhere down the electric g... Read Full Story

While not an unworthy album by any means, 2006’s At War with the Mystics marked the first time that a Flaming Lips album did not surpass its predecessor in some way (okay, so maybe Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots didn’t top the Soft Bulletin, but it’s arguably in the same league). So it comes as no surprise that Embryonic, their twelfth full length studio release, is a sharp turn away from the pop inflections they implemented on the last three efforts. What is surprising, ho... Read Full Story

So today, I wanted to offer a give to all you Shwayze fans out there. They just released their second album today, Let It Beat, and hit me up with TWO signed cds and TWO posters (unsigned) from the guys. As per usual, email me with why you think you deserve to have a piece of Malibu history.
My darling new writer, Juice, will be writing a review on the album shortly, so keep an eye out! The contest only runs for a week (ends on 11/10) so hit me up quickly folks!
Until next time my friends,

New York is a lovely place. In spite of being, let’s admit it, just a hair overrated, it is a city with the charm and multitudinousness of a Fritz Lang film. That being said, the creators of Paris, Je T’aime, Emmanuel Benbihy and Tristan Carne, seem determined to further their film series on cities to love with the concisely and repetitively titled New York, I Love You. Just like Paris, Je T’aime, it has a cast list that reads like a sighting at The Brown Derby (if, of course, this assortment... Read Full Story

Some days, you wake up and not a fucking thing happens. Other days, you wake up and Bangs enters your life. You, my friends, can thank me later.

Originally hailing from North Khartoum, Sudan, Bangs music career started to show sparkles of greatness when he moved to Australia in 2003. If th... Read Full Story

The past few years have been good to thrash metal. Metallica and Megadeth released great (if slightly flawed) return-to-form long players, Testament put out their first in nearly ten years (and it’s up to snuff, even!), and while it’s not looking too promising at present, Anthrax is scheduled to release an album sometime this year (their first in six years). And now, here comes Slayer with their follow-up to 2006’s Christ Illusion, their reunion album with original drummer D... Read Full Story

When listening to the new Weezer album Raditude, one must remember – Rivers Cuomo & company will never recapture the magic of their earliest stuff, so comparing old and new Weezer is a fruitless endeavor that will just lead to anger, profanity and a desire to listen to In the Garage for the 8,000th time. That said, Raditude is a FUN record. The songs are breezy, light tunes that mostly lack the depth or “maturity” of some of Weezer’s classic songs. That isn’t entirely shocking when consi...
