Grant with Jimmy Page and Robert Plant
On This Date In 1995: Peter Grant, manager of The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin and Bad Company, died of a heart attack. He was 60 years old. Grant was a total bad ass who has been described as “one of the shrewdest and most ruthless managers in rock history.” He is widely credited with improving pay and conditions for musicians in dealings with concert promoters.

Oh man, this news breaks my heart so bad. Jeanne-Claude, one half of the husband and wife artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude, has passed away of a brain aneurysm. I’ve been a huge fan of Jeanne–Claude and Christo for ages and ages, ever since I saw a documentary film about the making their Running Fence project. And just a few years ago I was fortunate to experience The Gates right here in NYC’s Central Park. It was so awesome. It’s so weird that even just yesterday I was on a high floor in t... Matt Sorum, drummer for The Cult, Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver turns 49 years old today. Older than me: yes! Speaking of Velvet Revolver, I’m reading this new book (just released November 10th) by Mary Forsberg Weiland – who I believe is in the process of becoming the ex-Mrs. Scott Weiland – called Fall To Pieces. Mary’s book is not just another Rock Wife Tells All piece of fluff. In the pages of the appropriately named Fall To Pieces, Forsberg talks a lot about her own life and career... Read Full Story

The show helped to launch the care... Read Full Story
On This Date in 1979: Public Image Ltd released their second album, Metal Box, which included the singles “Careering,” “Memories” and “Swan Lake” (aka “Death Disco”). It reached the #18 spot on the U.K. albums chart. The album is sometimes referred to as The Public Image Reel owing to its unique packaging: three 12-inch records in a film canister embossed with the group’s PiL logo. Metal Box, now obviously a near-priceless collector’s item, was later repackaged in a s... Read Full Story
“The Colors…”
Wow, if this isn’t the Coolest Dress Ever, I don’t know what is. The Galaxy Dress by CuteCircuit is created out of 24,000 full-color LEDs, each measuring only 2×2 millimeters. According to the story at the above link, “To diffuse the light and create an even more ethereal effect, the designers added four layers of silk chiffon, along with 4,000 hand-applied Swarovski crystals that extend the gown’s glittery sheen even after the LED bulbs go dim. And although t... Read Full Story
