Assisted computing

I stumbled across this really interesting site called AssistiveWare that offers various hardware and software to help the disabled use computers.

It has all sorts of interesting things that I haven't even thought of/heard of before -- beyond the assistive technology I had heard of, like website reader software. There's even a link from the home page to a companion site called Assistive Gaming, which covers just what you'd expect.

I found out about these sites by way of a player in the online game I spend a lot of time on, ClanLord. I had no idea this player was disabled and uses assistive devices until he mentioned it and sent some of us the link to his article on how he plays ClanLord.

Pretty cool stuff. Occasionally I feel down about my bone and joint issues and what my future holds with rheumatoid arthritis, but reading about cool technological advances really helps keep my hopes up. I have found so many ways to adapt over the years, and this stuff helps me realize I can continue to do that in the future.
