London and Maddie returned from ice skating at Bryant Park and cupcakes at Crumbs’ Bakery in NYC on Martin Luther King Day to a two-hour delayed opening at Mendham Township Middle School and Elementary School this morning due to the hail and sleet and ice on the roads…so I can’t really claim that Spring is in the air. The good news, however, is that Mendham Little League is open for registration. I’ve signed up Maddie and London to play softball and they are training hard over the winter with... Read Full Story

This afternoon, London and her Mendham Township Middle School classmates are meeting to learn about auditions for this year’s school play, Dear Edwina Jr. According to Wikipedia, Dear Edwina is a musical by Zina Goldrich (music) and Marcy Heisler (book and lyrics). A children’s one-hour musical, it concerns a young girl who gives her neighborhood friends and family advice through singing in a musical show. It is set in the town of Paw Paw, Michigan, although the setting is more like... Read Full Story

This year, the big item on London and Maddie’s Christmas wish list was “new bedrooms”…and we’ve been working on making it happen this week. Yesterday, John’s Painting (908-604-8759) from Basking Ridge did an awesome job. Maddie asked for Benjamin Moore’s Aquarius (788) blue walls and Bainbridge Blue (749) trim; London also chose Aquarius but with Meridian Blue (761) trim. Manny and his crew also saved the day by hanging 3X3 Style Tile Bulletin Boards from PB Teen in each of their rooms…a task... Read Full Story
Roxy’s Secret Is Out…I Love Love Love My Mechanic: Moro Automotive in Mendham, NJ

Before I met Dennis Moro of Moro Automotive in Mendham, my service calls at the car dealer sounded something like this: “It’s gonna cost you a grand just to open her up and take a look.  Of course, we’ll credit that against your [sky's-the-limit] total repair bill once we find the problem.” “I know you brought her in for our $29.99 oil change, but with the other standard service items we like to do at 30,000 miles, your total bill comes to $665.95.” And that doesn’t even include the... Maddie and London’s Costumes Have Arrived…Ready for the Bay Head Halloween Parade on Sunday, October 30th

I know I’ve told you before, and I’ll tell you again…our family takes Halloween very very seriously. Even before London was a glimmer in our eyes, Rex and I would sit out on the porch of our beach house in Bay Head, New Jersey, on the Sunday before Halloween, and the crowds of ghosts, goblins, princesses, prom queens and football players would gather in front of the shops on Mount Street for the Bay Head Halloween Parade. The year Maddie was born, my niece Candy sewed a homemade pumpkin... Read Full Story

As many of my loyal readers know, our family has two beautiful cockapoos from Mulberry Farm .  Peanut Butter is 19 months old, and Honey is just a 6-month-old puppy.  Now my loyal readers also know that the road to hell is paved with Roxy’s good intentions, and poor Peanut Butter’s fluffy coat had become shaggy and matted underneath. This Fall, London and Maddie joined the Doggone Crazy 4-H Club, and next week they’ll be bringing Peanut Butter and Honey to their very first dog obedience... While it has taken my tomboy, Maddie, a little longer than her older sister, London (the dancer), to find her passion, she’s found it in softball and just can’t get enough. This spring, Maddie pitched for our 3rd and 4th grade rec league team, the Mendham Minors Mets, who went 13-0 in the regular season only to lose a heartbreaker to the A’s in the championship game, 12-11 in the 9th inning…she used a highly accurate slingshot delivery, earning the nickname Maddie “K” for all of her...
