Frugal Holiday Tips

Summer is approaching yet the credit crunch is ever-present. This isn’t stopping friends and colleagues from planning their bank holiday weekends or annual leave, they are just getting more creative.

The “staycation” is becoming more common as families, couples and singletons all opt for staying close to home and exploring their own cities or counties. This is certainly easy to do in London where there’s so much to see and do, but maybe a little more difficult for folks in the countryside or villages.

To help get your planning underway,  SameDayCash has surfed the net and pulled together the most common frugal holiday tips:

  • Travel off-peak: Whether travelling by air or train, mid-week is generally less expensive than weekend bookings. Also search the whole day for the best fare avoiding peak times.
  • Rent lodging: When staying for 3+ days, consider renting a flat or villa instead of staying in a hotel.
  • Opt for self-catering: It’s always cheaper to cook your own meals instead of dining out.

Top tips include:

  • Enjoy free activities at your destination
  • Invite others to join you in order to share costs
  • Choose a destination that is not at its peak season

In the end, there’s always CouchSurfing.org or your local green space.

Safe travels!
