How to Feed Your Family on Under $2 a Day

I have been conducting an experiment lately to see if I could feed myself a healthy diet on $1 - $2 a day. My definition of healthy means that each daily menu has to: 1. Provide at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. 2: It has to meet my Nutribase nutrition software program's recommendations for the daily values of all trackable minerals and vitamins, including calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin B12. 3. It also has to stay within the salt and fat guidelines and meet or exceed the fiber... Read Full Story

M.B. and I decided this weekend to stop blogging and already the decision has been very "freeing". I've found that although I love blogging, it is very time consuming and I've fallen away from some of the other hobbies. For example, I haven't been knitting or reading as much as I used to. M.B. & I haven't been doing the home improvement projects we love and so we'd like to do more of those. There is so much to enjoy in life and so we have to cut back somewhere! Also, our daughter is growing... Read Full Story

Just want to wish everyone a Happy Father's Day! I also want to wish M.B. Happy Father's day. He is such a loving and wonderful dad to our baby. He is the Daddy than can do it all - making the baby laugh, clean up around the house, changing dirty diapers and working hard each day for his family! We are making M.B. a special breakfast and we bought him a book. He loves to read to the baby, so we bought a book all about Daddy animals and their babies - we wrote a message in it to him. My hope... Read Full Story
Debt Reduction Update

We finally finished up our new front step project this week. We hired someone to make us two railings and install them for us. We finally have nice looking and safe front steps!! We went three an a half years with front steps that we had to pile cinder blocks on top of. Because of the cost of the railings, we didn't have a single cent left over to send an extra payment to our student loans. Normally we'd be a little disappointed in not being able to send anything, but it helps to see our... Read Full Story
Clothespins - More Than Just Hanging Clothes
| From : bethriftylikeus.blogspot.com

We have a little line we've hung across our basement to line dry some of our clothes and so we bought a bag of clothespins to go along with it - but the bag came with way more than we will ever use, so we've been finding new uses for them. I wanted to share some ideas with you: The Chip Clip - it works great to keep a bag of chips or pretzels closed. You could also use it on bags of frozen veggies or other things in the freezer than you have opened. For Cooking - it works great to hold open... Read Full Story
I Thought It Would Save Me Time

If you have never had the pleasure of driving in a car with me, I am directionally challenged, haha. I am just always making wrong turns and am not the best navigator. Well today I thought I'd take what I thought was a shortcut to save time. Turns out, I made a wrong turn and ended up going fifteen minutes in the wrong direction. It was pretty frustrating in the 99 degree heat when I tried to take the shortcut to save gas. And then after I realized I had gone the wrong way and turned around... Read Full Story

ACME Markets has some good deals this week. I find that most supermarkets have several freebies or super cheap loss leaders each week. Here is my .20 cent shopping order: Pizza Rolls are $1.00 You can print a .55 cent off coupon here and here which will get doubled automatically and you'll get them free. Zone Bars are $1.00, if... I've gotten some great CVS questions and reminders from the readers lately and I wanted to share them with you. Expired CVS Coupons Jill wrote to me to tell me that she asked at her local store if she could keep using the $5.00 off $15.00 CVS coupon that expired and her local store told her that they will continue to accept it as long as the register takes it. I've read that these coupons can work for up to two weekss after they expire, so be sure to ask at your local stores if they expired... Read Full Story
Following Up on Bank Bonuses

M.B. & I love to get Bank Bonuses. We've blogged about it on here before, so I just wanted to bring it up again since it is Frugal Friday . For example, our bank told us that if we used our debit card five times in March, they would give us a $5.00 credit on our account. It's not much money, but it was simple enough to use the debit five times. They told us the $5.00 bonus would be paid in six weeks, but it was never paid. I had to call and follow up to get it. I was then told I have to go... Read Full Story
