Local Favorite Hanescu to Meet Simon in Final
Romanian wild card Victor Hanescu advanced to his first career ATP final on Saturday with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over French qualifier Gael Monfils in the BCR Open Romania. The 26-year-old Bucharest native improved his career record to 12-4 in his hometown tournament and he is the first Romanian to reach the final since the event began in 1993. Stunning Win
Lindsay Davenport sure knows how to return to the tour. After not playing in a singles event in nearly a year, and just three months after giving birth to her first child, Davenport stuns the tennis world by winning the title in Bali. ...and is she better than ever? Lindsay Davenport missed a year of tennis and gave birth to her first daughter. In her first big event back on tour, she's making it look like she never left. 2007 Update
It's been a wild week in Romania as the tournament field has been turned upside down. Defending champion Jurgen Melzer, who was seeded fourth, was upset in the first round by Andreas Seppi. Of the tournament's eight seeded players, only one -- #6 Giles Simon -- has stayed alive to the final four. Gael Monfils became the first qualifier to reach the semis of the tournament since 2000.
