Salvatore House - Part Two
Ferguson ran his fingers along the medieval tapestry, stirring up the dust, just as the hands who created it were now dust too. He lit a cigarette, and watched the smoke rise lazily, gracefully towards the high ceiling. He looked around him. ‘No wonder people see ghosts here’, he thought: if ever a house was truly trapped in the past, it was Salvatore, with it’s dulled-metal knights guarding the walls, and the faces of Gower ancestors watching every move of the timid, entranced observer... Salvatore House - Part One
Ill fortune followed Keith Ferguson, as surely as his dark shadow dogged his weary footsteps. A ‘psychic researcher’ for a decade, his reports told the same old sad story of his bad luck; not a single shred of objective proof, not a single ghost captured on film. And it wasn’t for the lack of effort; he had spent many cold and uncomfortable nights in some of the most famously-haunted houses in Britain, listening to the rats scurrying about and the wind howling through the hallways - but... ‘The Man of Sorrows’ 3: ‘An Evening with Rebekka Vel’
I knew her history, she knew nothing of me. I had the advantage over her,  which Rebekka probably expected, as men had always had the best of her.  She had positioned herself in a majestic red leather chair, anticipating my arrival in the Hauptstadt Hotel. It was a seductive pose, her long fingers lightly tapping the armrests, her legs crossed jauntily, a pose remembered from the days when she could have any man she wanted. But those days were long gone.   She was dressed in a rather mannish... Read Full Story

‘Schindler’s List’
goeth.jpg
I can’t say that this is my favourite film, it’s far too harrowing for that, but it is by far the most important film I’ve seen. This summary is aimed at people who haven’t seen the movie, by the way. It really should be viewed as part of history teaching in school, even though the events depicted took place half a century ago… However, the event that is the film’s backdrop, the Holocaust, is always in the background of our times, a dark shadow or stain on human history that could easily... ‘Children of the Flames’
9-2-9.jpg
by Lucette Matalon Lagnado & Sheila Cohn Dekel ‘Children of the Flames’ is an astonishing read, and tells a tale of the very best and worst of human nature. It is essentially the story of the obscene medical experiments performed on twin children by Dr Josef Mengele in the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp. But despite it’s heartbreaking subject matter, one discovers hope, and an extraordinary desire for life in the stories told by the survivors; a determination to live on, and tell... Read Full Story
