BC High School Football Power Rankings
BC High School Football Power Rankings – Nov. 27 Unofficial (not Howard Tsumura) and enjoying American Thanksgiving too much. 1. Centennial – Their running game was unstoppable against Lord Tweedsmuir but New Westminster is stout against the run. Lemar Durant will have to be effective as a passer to beat the Hyacks and get to the championship game. Defensively they can’t afford to give up the big play. The Hyacks have lost quite a few fumbles in big games this season, if the Centaurs force t... Read Full Story
New West, Centennial, primed for rematch in semis
Centennial vs. New Westminster - McLeod Stadium - Nov. 28, 5:30 p.m. These two teams played an all-timer of a game back in September.  It was a back and forth display of offensive might that ended 35-33 New Westminster. But much has changed since then. For one, the quarterback situation at Centennial went from the careful hands of Luke Williams to the electricity of Lemar Durant. “Centennial is a completely different team with Lemar at quarterback,” noted New Westminster’s head coach Farhan ... Passing game flies under the radar for Mouat Hawks, but still key
W.J. Mouat vs. Vancouver College - McLeod Stadium - Nov. 28, 8 p.m. For a Grade 11 student-athlete, W.J. Mouat Hawks quarterback Cam Bedore has a lot more poise in the pocket then most people would think. The scary thing is, he’s still got one more year left in B.C. high school football. But he isn’t thinking about that right now. Not one bit. On Saturday, Bedore and the Hawks will go head-to-head with their toughest challenge of the season – the Vancouver College Fighting Irish. So far in t... Read Full Story
Vancouver College, Centennial earn bids in semifinals
Vancouver College 23 – South Kamloops 12 – Nov. 21, 2009. Another dreary, rainy night at Langley’s McLeod Stadium brought about another sloppy game in the quarter-final round. The Irish showed an array of offensive weapons, throwing the ball effectively with quarterback Jeff Tichelman, running back Garret Sanvido running through and around tacklers all night, and using wide receiver Patrick Bull at quarterback to run the option.  “We just want to take advantage of Patrick’s quickness,”... Terry Fox relinquishes crown to New Westminster
New Westminster 23 - Terry Fox 12 - Nov. 20, 2009. As the Terry Fox Ravens’ reign of dominance came to an end, another began.  The New Westminster Hyacks have more impressive wins this year than anyone else in the province. They have now beaten Kelowna, Notre Dame, Centennial, W.J. Mouat and now Terry Fox. All five of those teams made the playoffs, two of them won their conference championship. Yet with all those wins under their belt, this was the type of slobber-knocker game that they hadn... Read Full Story
BC HS Football Power Rankings
BC High School Football Power Rankings – Nov. 20 Unofficial (not Howard Tsumura), and hoping for free food in the press box. With most of our top five in a bye week, and no movement as a result, here are your weekly power rankings with a twist: McLeod Stadium’s finer points. 1. Weather – The weather is dominating tonight. Sheets of rained poured down as soon as the Windsor-Seaquam game ended. South Delta learned their lesson. Don’t screw with mother nature, she’s a giant killer. Triple... Read Full Story
Windsor wins by one in an improbable situation
Windsor 14 - Seaquam 13 - Nov. 20, 2009. Seaquam had the game in the palm of their hands and it slipped away like grains of sand. The Seahawks built a 13-0 lead over Windsor in a Double-A quarter-final on the legs of running back Buddy Hutchison. But 10 minutes away from the win a Seaquam fumble on the one-yard line gave Windsor a glimpse of hope and the Seahawks’ lead began to slip away. Windsor’s quarterback, Zach McKnight, got the Dukes out of the shadow of their own end zone, throwing a ... Read Full Story
BC HS Football quotes of the week
After the W.J. Mouat-Notre Dame game, Howard Tsumura from the Province, Cam Tucker from the Abbotsford Times, a reporter from the Abbotsford News and myself talked with W.J. Mouat’s head coach, Dennis Kelly, about the 28-3 win over the Jugglers. Here are a few quotes from coach Kelly: “The special thing about (Allan Dicks) is he’s totally not influenced by stats. He’s a very unselfish guy and he’s a great guy to have on the team.” On their second-round game... Read Full Story
