We Painted the Kitchen During our Vacation? What?

We were all set to travel to Florida to visit our old neighbor's Amy & Charlie. Their daughter, Molly, who babysat for our children had a baby. What happened? Our kids are too busy. Too many conflicts. So what do we do? We decide to keep the vacation time to paint and install a hardwood floor in our kitchen. A floor that we bought 3 years prior - it has been in the dining room ever since. I also painted swatches of mustard on the wall 3 years ago. Good thing we lived with it that long because I changed my mind. Here are the before and during photos. I'd show you the finished photos, but then we'd have to be finished. All of the cabinet fronts are still in the garage being painted. Okay, so I'm slow.

Before
Our back door is right off the kitchen - hate it! I'd give my first born for a mudroom.

The kitchen sink. Yes, it's a mess, but I wasn't going to clean to take "before" photos. I'm going to miss that floor. I installed it 15 years ago thinking we'd keep it for 3 or 4 years. It was a cheap solution at the time, but black & white linoleum squares show-off every spec of dirt.

More mustard paint blobs. Left door is my office and the right door is our dining room. Everything is connected.

This is actually the "breakfast room", but I've been using it as my office. Check out the recumbent bike my hubby set up for me. Everyday is a bike ride in my office. At one time we used it as a "breakfast room" and then it became a playroom. I painted the walls with playful designs for the kids. Below is a better photo of the walls.

Here's my office with all of the furniture moved out. You can see the door jam that we mark the kid's height on their birthdays. It's funny how friends have added their names as well. The kids were sad that we were going to paint over the art, but it was in need of freshening.

We have 53 cabinet doors and drawers combined. Yes, it sounds like a lot, but I can't reach the majority of them. I need a ladder.

The kids were very helpful moving everything out. We decided not to paint inside the cabinets. I did that 15 years ago, and I swore I'd never do it again. NEVER.

Behind the refrigerator there is a room with 3 doors and a back staircase. Yes, it's the maid's staircase. NOT. Well, if you paint the attached kitchen you paint the adjacent rooms. It will never end.

Below are some photos of how all the "stuff" lived in the other rooms. What a mess.
Does anyone see the hardwood floor still in the boxes?

Painting requires a lot of wine:
Black Oak
2006 Vintage Merlot
California
1.5 L
$9.99
$1 per glass
Subtle oak. Nice soft tannins. Blackberry aromas. Medium bodied. Great for painting.

Boho Vineyards
2006 Merlot
Central Coast, California
3L
$23.99
$1.20 per glass
I guess painting puts me in the mood for merlot? I never knew that? First of all, I have to repeat that Boho has the best designed box. For those of us who buy bottles of wine due to their label - here's a box to buy for it's box. It doesn't let you down there either - It's a nice wine. Boho Vineyards is also very eco-conscience. The carbon footprint is 55% smaller than the four 750ml bottles it replaces, and even after recycling, 85% less packaging waste ends up in our over-crowded landfills. The cardboard shell is made from 95% post-consumer waste and the inks are soy-based. This leads me to believe we should, "drink wine to save the environment!" And how's the wine - great! Medium boded with cherry and ripe blackberry, oak, smooth, YUM.
