Last updated: Thursday - December 3, 2009 On Tuesday, Dec. 1st, the Boulder Valley School District (CO) went online with an open enrollment system. Parents could login and request a school out of their assigned attendance area for their child. Within hours the system crashed due to heavy traffic.
The BVSD is a district with heavy concentration of Hispanics in its eastern regions and heavy concentration of upper middle-class Anglos in the west.

Starting tomorrow, November 24, 2009, the following changes to teacher personnel practices will be law in the state of Arizona:
1. School districts are prohibited from using tenure or seniority in making retention decisions. Nor can they use seniority in decisions to reduce force.

A teacher in a charter school is more than twice as likely to leave the profession than a teacher in a traditional public school. Stuit and Smith analyzed federal data from the 2003-04 school year on 14,400 teachers from charters and traditional public schools in 16 states.
