Jessica Alba Tackles Action Role in 'The Insiders'
If you've had a chance to watch the grueling promo trailer for The Killer Inside Me, you know already that it's potenially the riskiest role of Jessica Alba's none-too-breathtaking career. I don't know whether it's a real step forward for her acting - it's only a trailer, even if it's longer than usual - but I can say in no uncertain terms that it's the most liberated she's been on screen, and whatever squeaky clean image she portrayed before I saw Casey Affleck whip her bare ass and slap her... 'Zombieland' Sequel Might Be in 3-D
I honestly think Zombieland is almost too good to put in the guilty pleasure category, but now it's taking a step that might more closely align it with My Bloody Valentine, which is nothing but a guilty pleasure. Director Ruben Fleischer talked to Moviehole this week with some details about the proposed sequel, including a strong possibility that it could be in 3-D. Fleischer says, “The genre really lends itself to [3-D]”, which, of course, it does. Very well, even. So that's pretty good ne... Read Full Story
First Look at the Fourth (and Final) 'Shrek'
We have our first look at the fourth Shrek movie - Shrek Forever After - courtesy of USA Today. That's the big green ogre below and, apparently, Clay Aiken? It's a slightly more realistic look than previous versions of Shrek, and there's a good reason for that: The fourth movie will be in 3-D. A lot of that going around these days. And that's not Clay Aiken but rather Rumplestiltskin, who has made brief appearances before in the series. The character will not have a celebrity voice, but is i... Read Full Story
Denzel's Latest 'Book of Eli' Poster
It's the end of the world as we know it... One apocalypse movie is already in theaters (2012), with another one arriving in select cities today (The Road). Then in January, we have two more, The Book of Eli and Legion. Denzel's Book of Eli arrives first next year, opening on January 15th, and there's a new poster for the film, one that's slightly less gloomy than previous artwork for the movie. Click on the image to see the whole thing. Poster Courtesy of MySpace Read Full Story
Peter Jackson Discusses 'Tintin' and 'The Hobbit'
In a new interview with the BBC, Peter Jackson expresses no concern about handing over the reins of The Hobbit to Guillermo del Toro, and talks about his own next step as a director, the 3-D animated Tintin. "Tintin is great. It's made," Jackson says of his co-production with fellow celluloid hero Steven Spielberg. "The movie is cut together and now [we] are turning it into a fully-rendered film". The process of taking the edited footage and transforming it into the Tintin we'll see i... Read Full Story
Fearless Forecast: More Millions For 'New Moon'
Expect another big victory for New Moon at the box office this weekend, and in general, expect a strong Thanksgiving five-day frame bolstered by several films. The Twilight sequel will reign again in large part because there's simply nothing else in theaters capable of making about $75 million in five days. Among the new releases, Old Dogs will probably make the most money. I say probably because it looks like the most vulnerable, as well. In addition to vying for the family audien... Read Full Story
Tobey Maguire on Possible 'Spidey 4' Villains
Speculation about the villain in Spider-Man 4 has been a steady source of amusement/frustration ever since Sam Raimi and company misfired on the third movie. Heading into the pre-production phase - still ongoing - Raimi had stated that he only wants to use one bad guy in the next movie, and that's how it should in a perfect world. We thought Lizard would finally get his much-needed day in the sun, and then over the past week or so, there have been all these rumors about Black Cat. Not sure h... Read Full Story
Fox Honcho Downplays Budget Reports for 'Avatar'
It was just the other day that we half-jokingly referenced the ballooning budget numbers (if not the ballooning budget) for James Cameron's Avatar. A lot of numbers have been thrown around, all of them enormous, but there's no real answer on exactly how much it's going to cost to change history. That's what Fox hopes it does, at any rate. But a recent Reuters report echoed the earlier New York Times figure estimating that Avatar might equal a stack of money $500 million big, once the... Read Full Story
New and Improved 'Lovely Bones' Poster
The first real deal voting screening I'm attending this year is The Lovely Bones, happening early next week. Some screeners have already arrived, but they're films I've already seen, making Bones my first real foray into the mad season. To get a little extra pub for the movie, Paramount has released a new poster, and a more evocative one, in my opinion. The previous one lacked any real meaning unless you know the book well enough. This one, however, forces the issue a bit more. Read Full Story
Movie Review - 'Ninja Assassin'
ninjaassassinposter.jpg
Ninja Assassin Starring Rain, Naomie Harris, and Sho Kosugi Directed by James McTeigue Rated R It's all a little too whiz-bang, but James McTeigue's Ninja Assassin is nevertheless a great hour-and-a-half for action fans steeped in cartoon-inspired violence. McTeigue (V for Vendetta) appears to be midway through a larger story, so it's possible this might strike you as parts one and two of a series, and it may have been better served that way. Still, there's a lack of good, fun, death... Read Full Story
