Yesterday I didn’t want to go running. There was no reason, I was just feeling lazy. Then I saw someone tweet about how good they felt about their workout that day. That simple, 140-character message changed my whole mindset and later I went for a 6 mile run. I felt great after and was glad I went.
Has social media –whether it be twitter, facebook, or a blog — ever motivated you to get out and exercise or help you make a better choice for a meal or snack? It definitely ... Read Full Story

I read this article in The Daily Universe (the campus newspaper for BYU) today about weight vs. health. Here’s a quote from the article from one of my old professors:
“The media and marketers have done a very good job at making us feel inadequate about our appearance. They want to help us use their products to solve a problem that they’ve created. People who have a product to sell will do their part to create a demand for their product. They’re just trying to conv... Read Full Story

It’s been a while since I gave any shout outs. Here are some great posts/articles from around the web that I’ve read recently. Enjoy them.
The Tempation of Soda Taxes from Marion Nestle’s blog is an interesting read. Check out the graph that shows the prices of soda and prices of fruits/veggies in last 10 years.
I’m not a “hard core” cyclist like a lot of people, but I have had some close calls with cars while out on my bike. Honestly, it bugs me how c... Read Full Story

I love comments. They’re fun to read and fun to respond to. Most of the time. A lot of times I get comments from “Payday Loans” or “Teeth Whitening” or “Acai Berry Cure.” That’s not gonna fly any more.
Any comment that is not from a name (real or fake, I don’t care) or “Anonymous” will not be published. I don’t care how good your comment is.

“Isn’t information that can help you avoid obesity and diabetes as important as knowing how to wash your blouse?”
– Margot Wootan, director of nutrition policy for the nonpartisan Center for Science in the Public Interest [via here].
From an interesting article from Time about posting nutrition facts on menu boards and menus at fast food restaurants.
It’s different for everybody, but for me, I still like the idea. I want the facts right in my face and I donR... Read Full Story

I haven’t had time to write a race report for the triathlon I did last Saturday. I will soon. This pic shows the swim. I’m out there somewhere. Wife was happy I didn’t drown. Read Full Story

Tomorrow is race day. Gotta do just under 1 mile swim in Utah Lake, ride about 25 miles on the bike, then run a little over 6 miles.
I always get nervous before events, whether it be a 5k or any triathlon. I’ve only done this distance once (last year, same event) so I hope to improve my time this year.
Lot’s of stuff is going through my mind today. Have I trained enough. Did I rest enough. What if I flat. What if I have an asthma attack in the lake. What if I get a DNF.... Read Full Story

“Wash your hands often. Wash your hands to the length of the ‘Happy Birthday’ song twice. Be sure to keep food preparation surfaces clean and wipe down often. Always wash raw fruits and vegetables in clean water. Just because you can’t see the bacteria doesn’t mean it’s not there!”

I’m a Tiger Woods fan. In honor of that, and that the US Open is this week, I decided to share some parts of his “Fitness Philosophy.” I especially love the last part.
“I’m always trying to improve, whether it’s on the golf course or in the gym. So I ask myself: What do I need to [...] Read Full Story
