Meteor Shower comes to Bing!
From:  binghamton.edu
Last Monday, my old roommate from last year (Stefano) told me about the Leonid meteor shower that was occurring that night, and he asked if I wanted to join him in the nature preserve with some other old hallmates to watch it. Now I’m no astromony expert or enthusiast, but I figured it would be a good idea. After all, my first class wouldn’t start until 11:40am the next day. Apparently, the peak of the shower was about 2:00am on Tuesday morning. So I stayed up and did a lot of homework whi... Read Full Story
Everyone’s Favorite Topic
From:  binghamton.edu
This past Thursday, author and self-proclaimed “amateur biologist” Joe Quirk came to give a talk in the Old Union. The topic of his talk was sex and relationships, but Quirk expanded upon what we already know from 10th grade health class and our own… ahem… fieldwork. The author used the concepts of evolutionary biology and psychology to explain phenomena having to do with sex, love, and dating. Check out the video to see what he had to say. Read Full Story
Hiya!
From:  binghamton.edu
It’s still the flu season and I hear many ways from different people on how to stay healthy, ranging from vitamin C supplements to frequent exercise. When I heard “exercise,” that reminded me about the Tae Kwon Do class that I took here at the university. I took it with Master Flecter and it was a blast. It starts out with the morning stretches and warm up and then we get into the mechanics of hand to hand combat. We practice strikes, and blocks and at higher levels, we learn forms. Forms ... Winter time ain’t so bad…
From:  binghamton.edu
Yes, I know the word, ain’t, technically does not exist, but in this instance I think the word fits remarkably well.  If you’re not in Binghamton right now, you might not be aware that some people find this neck of the woods to be frigidly cold.  People start wearing layers, colored marshmallow jackets and Eskimo boots around mid October on an annual basis.  Don’t lose heart.  The cold is broken by various academic breaks and events.  It’s only about a month from the ... Adventures in Turkey: The Mediterranean and Cappadocia!
From:  binghamton.edu
To continue from my last blog entry, I will tell you more about my wonderful adventures in Turkey this summer! I went to a few new places this past summer that I didn’t go to the previous summer. One place, my absolute favorite, was Kemer, Antalya, along the Mediterranean Sea. A few of my friends and I spent ten days traveling around, soaking up the warm sun, and swimming in the incredibly beautiful Mediterranean. We took a ship tour, which took us to various points along the coast, stopping ... Read Full Story
Week Before Thanksgiving
From:  binghamton.edu
Hey everyone! So this week, I registered for my classes for the spring semester. Registration order is determined by the number of credits you have, and since I only have eight, I only got to register this week. However, I still got the classes I wanted and I can always add or drop a class in January. On Tuesday, I was actually in the library for over five hours writing a research paper. I spent some time exploring the library and found the fourth floor, which is actually very quiet and ... Read Full Story

On Saturday, November 14, I got to see the BU Men’s Basketball team win their first game of the season! They won 54-49 against Bloomsburg University. You can read the article about it in Pipe Dream, one of our campus publications by clicking here. As I mentioned in a previous post, I am a tour guide and I gave a tour of campus that morning. I was sure to let our guests know that they could come down to the Events Center with us after the tour to check it out and help us cheer on our one of o... Read Full Story

The Best Part of the Break
From:  binghamton.edu
Michelle and I stayed in Jerusalem for 4 days, during which we traveled the countryside and met a great many interesting and kind people… some of whom tried to correct my Egyptian Arabic into Palestinian Arabic, which always turned into a scene of entertaining proportions.  We found quickly that the food outside the walls of the old city was indeed better and less expensive… say a third of the price or less.  It was an awesome discovery, though the first thing we did was visit a man... Spring Break…continued
From:  binghamton.edu
The morning after arriving, we started doing the tourist bit… walking the ‘via dolorosa’ the path of Christ as he dragged his cross to his his death place.  Fortunately for the businesses in the area, or unfortunately depending on your viewpoint, the path changes every couple of years to spread the business around.  Some of the fixtures remain true, but the businesses benefiting from the gullible change to even out the profit because, whether or not you want to believe me or not, Je...
