Paranormal Activity (2007)
My wife and I went to see this one on Halloween. I thought it was quite entertaining after the first 20 minutes or so. This film cost only $15,000 to make, and was filmed at director Oren Peli home who also wrote the screenplay. As I’m writing this, the film has grossed around $62 million already. So, it is possible to make an entertaining feature on a dirt cheap shoe string budget if it is creatively done. We were the only ones at the start of the film, and a few ... Read Full Story

Night of the Living Dead (1990)
I guess it’s fitting to do a review about a horror film the night before Halloween. So, I figured I’d review a classic. This is actually a remake of the original Night of the Living Dead (1968). It is director George A. Romero’s claim to fame. Tom Savini directed this version, but it was based upon the writing and story by both Romero and John A. Russo. There is nothing complicated about the premise of this movie, it helped to inspire a number of other zombie ... Read Full Story

Superman 2 (1980)
I just finished watching this one again. Over the years, I’ve seen this film a number of times, each time it is just as good. This movie delivers very well, and is slightly better than the original in my opinion. This is quite unusual, but there are some sequels that outshine the first release. This was directed by Richard Lester and Richard Donner who was uncredited. A number of writers worked on the screenplay which includes Mario Puzo, David Newman, and Leslie Newman. Th... The World According to Garp (1982)
I watched this one long ago; I remember it being a very good film, and was critically acclaimed. The jest of the story is about a man who for the most part led an extremely unusual life. He is surrounded by unique individuals who shape his thoughts and feelings. George Roy Hill directed this one, and captured a true classic which many people have never heard of. It was based off of the John Irving novel. Steve Tesich wrote the screenplay.
The tagline that w... Read Full Story

The Karate Kid (1984)
This is a true classic from the 1980’s. If you have never seen The Karate Kid, then you surely you must have heard of it. It was a standout picture from this decade, and brought some remember able moments in cinematic history. John G. Avildsen directed this one, and it was written by Robert Mark Kamen.
The simple tagline was “Only the ‘Old One’ could teach him the secrets of the masters”
The basic story is about a boy who grows up trying to fit in. He is los... Read Full Story

The Trigger Effect (1996)
Some movies you remember for their creativity, and this one was this type of a movie. Imagine a world without power? We are all so dependent on having it, that when we lose it, all hell can break loose. The tagline for this one was: “When Nothing Works, Anything Goes” I thought this one was good enough to rent or find for cheap to buy. It makes you think about how things can change dramatically for your family and friends, in an over the top situation directed by Da... Read Full Story

Twilight Zone: The Movie (1983)
It is an interesting film because it has multiple sequences in it. Each of them was directed by different directors. John Landis directed the prologue and segment 1. Steven Spielberg directed segment 2, Joe Dante directed segment 3, and George Miller directed segment 4. The intro to each of sequences was narrated by the late Burgess Meredith whose voice fit perfectly. This movie is based upon the Rod Serling television series that aired years ago.
The tagline ... Read Full Story

I Love You, Man (2009)
My wife and I just finished watching this one; we found it to be funny and an all around quality comedy. I think you will like this one also if you have an open sense of humor. This is about a man who is engaged to be married. Well, there is nothing out of the ordinary about that right? But wait…there is a twist. The story is about him not having any male friends, and he seeks to find a friend that would become his best man at his wedding. He goes on a series of “Man D... Read Full Story

Zombieland (2009)
I’ve seen a number of zombie films, but this one is a standout. I enjoyed everything from the opening sequence to the finish. This was directed by Ruben Fleischer and written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The tagline for this film was “This place is so dead”
There are a number of slow motion moments in this, but not too many…that were cleverly used and well timed. The setting takes place during the day and night so you get a sense that the characters were in danger at al... Read Full Story

Transsiberian (2008)
It has been a while since I’ve seen a movie this good. I really liked it and I will explain why. The outlined story is about an American couple who have previously volunteered abroad in China. They elect to travel back to the states while taking the internationally Trans-Siberia Express railway train ride, which reaches across from east to west through Russia. The ride is a long journey, and along the way they find more than they expected. This was directed by Brad Ander... Read Full Story
