Holding Bush Accountable for his Incompetent Fiscal Policy

bush is fiscally incompetent

I usually try to stay away from politics (at least on my blog), but let’s face it, if I am going to blog about business and money, I cannot avoid the subject of taxes and government spending. Every year I spend about 30% of my total income on taxes. I would not give any organization as incompetent as the U.S. government that amount of money per year., so why should I keep pouring money into a fiscally incompetent system?

Quite frankly, when you hold the U.S. Government accountable for the way that they handle my money, it is absolutely disgusting. If they were any other organization I would have fired them long ago. My Question is as follows: If I can be jailed for not paying taxes, what can we do to President Bush for wasting trillions of dollars in tax money? WHERE IS THE ACCOUNTABILITY?

In May of 2000, President Clinton paid down the national debt by $216 Billion. Then, the national debt stood at $5.7 Trillion and we had plans to pay it off by 2013. The economy was doing great!

Now, we are sitting upon a 9.3 Trillion Dollar debt and the largest federal budget deficit in the history of the nation. Do we have any plans to repay that debt? NO. And as a result we are seeing the value of the dollar decline and our economy is struggling. There is no doubt that there will be repercussions for our government’s frivolous spending in the last couple of years. You cannot expect to go $3.6 Trillion dollars into debt in the course of 8 years and be fine.

For some incredible insight into this, see Warren Buffett’s commentary on the subject. America’s Growing Trade Deficit Is Selling The Nation Out From Under Us…

So here is what our $3.6 Trillion in debt has bought us.

A very costly war that has cost us over $500 Billion and thousands of American lives. But that’s not really an economic decision because it’s a war we are fighting to promote freedom and democracy in a country that has been victimized by a ruthless tryrant and/or was responsible for weapons of mass destruction, terror cells, the boogey man, and big foot.

Gas Prices that have increased from around $1.50 a gallon in 200 to $4.00 a gallon today. Oh yeah, and not to mention the fact that there is no real alternative energy policy in place to help make America independent of foreign energy. Also, the Bush administration continues to give the Oil industry BILLIONS in subsidies despite their record profits.

All the while we are cutting federal relief to second-class, poor citizens, watching homes get foreclosed on while buying out millions of dollars of stock options for struggling investment bank CEO’s, and botching Hurricane Katrina.

My whole point here is that if this is what my tax dollars are going towards I don’t want to pay taxes. I will because if I don’t I will get thrown into jail for tax evasion…but I wish that I didn’t have to.

Don’t get me wrong, I am all for paying taxes if the government were to be responsible with my tax dollars. And I know that in part, I hold the government accountable for their actions by voting. However, when George Bush leaves office he will leave and be paid a very healthy pension, and probably rake in millions of dollars in consulting and speaking fees. Does that sound fair?

Once again, if I chose not to pay my taxes in protest of the corrupt and incompetent fiscal policy of the Bush administration, I would go to jail. What can I do to hold the government accountable when they squander my money?
