Nantwich Historical Trail
From:  www.crewe.tv
Here's one of those "things to do" type posts, especially if you haven't had a wander around nearby Nantwich for a while. You don't even have to drive over - plenty of buses connect the towns. Anyway, the Nantwich Historical Trail, launched three years ago, has been a great success and it has been updated in recent weeks. You’ve been able to walk about the town looking at the town’s many old buildings and points of interest for years, but cast your eyes to the pavements now and you’ll notice... Read Full Story
Lifelong Learning opportunities
From:  www.crewe.tv
What has always amazed me since starting the blog is the vast amount of people and organisations who are out there ready to offer help and support when you need it. It's just a case of knowing what's on offer, where to look, who to ask etc. So there’s some great news if you’re looking for training opportunities but struggle to find the cash and/or childcare. The Lifelong Learning Partnership (part of the Local Strategic Partnership) is launching a new scheme called Community Learning for... Read Full Story
Can postal jobs be saved?
From:  www.crewe.tv
On Sunday morning at 11am there is a meeting at the Alexandra Stadium to launch a campaign to save 600 postal jobs in Crewe. Local MP Edward Timpson will be there along with union bosses, workers and council leader John Hammond. But will they achieve anything? The preferred option to shut sites at Crewe and Liverpool serves the best interests of the North West region - apparently. However, the likes of local Liberal Democrat Gwyn Griffiths sees the move as ludicrous. He has a point, as mail... Read Full Story
More music at The Box
From:  www.crewe.tv
Always happy to plug a mate's efforts, especially when it's all about increasing the variety of music and entertainment on offer in the town. The latest offering at The Box is being staged by the Volume PR lads who played a massive part in May's Crewe Live 08 event. Tonight (Friday 29th) sees four bands on offer for just £3 (pay on the door at the Pedley Street entrance). Katatoy, Silvertone Prophet Deluxe (pictured in Market Square back in May), Friends Called Fred and The Guide are on the... Read Full Story
Local journo heads to Liverpool
From:  www.crewe.tv
Grabbed a few beers in the Angel the other night, the pub below ground level in the centre of town next to the Cheshire Building Society. It was a leaving bash for local journo Marc Waddington. . He’s off to work for the Liverpool Echo, concentrating on local government and politics. The snap is, therefore, pretty apt. Marc is pictured (on the right) with William Hague during May’s by-election, although I'm not sure that blue is necessarily his favourite colour - if you know what I mean... Read Full Story
Is time running out for station chatter?
From:  www.crewe.tv
Listen to CREAM (the Crewe Railways Engineering & Manufacture protest group) and Network Rail are deliberately running down the clock when it comes to consultation regarding Crewe's train station. Will it, won't it be moved? In fact, Cllr Roy Cartlidge is adamant that the rail giant is hoping to squeeze through plans for a move to Basford by making the consultation period too short for objectors to put their case forward. In fact, he reckons that there is no real case to move the station at... Read Full Story

The park has featured regularly over the last week due to the Crewe & Nantwich Festival, but tonight (Thursday 28th) sees things back to normal with the latest stakeholder meeting. It all takes place at 7pm in the cafe, plus a chance to have a nose around the ongoing works... Read Full Story
Tipkinder Fair - late evening
From:  www.crewe.tv
Fairgrounds have always fascinated me. The noise, bustle, colour, dirt, hussle and massed bodies looking for fun. Some looking for love. At night things change. The mood darkens, there is tension, excitement and uncertainty. Danger. It's almost menacing. Sometimes emotions take over. The lights can be subtle and yet dazzling. The noise and motion relentless. It can be fantastic, fearsome and frenetic. Here are some of the Crewe people from Tipkinder last Saturday night... . . And, almost... Read Full Story
Tipkinder to be renamed after Shanaze?
From:  www.crewe.tv
Continuing the night theme here's a spooky image of Crewe's BMX track down at Tipkinder, just up the bank from where the weekend's carnival fair was staged. Making the local news this week is a suggestion to rename the council-run facility in honour of local girl Shanaze Reade who came so close to taking gold in the women's BMX final in Beijing. Nice touch. What do the Tipkinder regulars make of that? And of course we shouldn't forget gymnast Beth Tweddle. What local venue could carry her... Read Full Story
Young Crewe singer celebrates
From:  www.crewe.tv
We don't tend to cover the exam results here on the blog, but one young lady we have heard about is local singer and guitar player Jasmin Dean. As well as fitting in loads of music/band practice and a few gigs (inc the Crewe Live 08 weekend, plus performances at Costa Coffee in town), Jasmin has just celebrated 9 A* and 2 As in her GCSEs. Impressive stuff. She's now planning to keep it local by taking her A levels at South Cheshire College. Good luck to her and here's hoping we get to hear... Read Full Story
