Somewhat ironically, the Occupy Wall Street Protestors filled the city park opposite Freedom Park as I approached, disrupting the otherwise somber, spiritual atmosphere. Filling the gaping hole formerly called “Ground Zero,” 16-acre Freedom Park opened September 11, 2011. New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, a host of celebrities and 7,000 friends and family members of victims paid respects and vowed to never forget the 2,752 men, women and children who died at this sacred place.
