The Great Lego Squidoo Survey

I am a huge fan of Lego, and have throughout most of my life never been without it, apart from during my university years where I didn't have space for it. I thought I'd share my own Lego experiences and find out about those of other readers and lensmasters. How typical is my Lego love or am I fairly unique? It'd be good to bring other parts of the Lego community from Lugnet and Flikr here to take part - build up a picture of Lego fans - one that I suspect Lego themselves do not have! What... Why Is Lego So Special Anyway?

Published to Kids Educational Toys
Lego is perhaps my favourite of all toys, and beyond having had a brief period without Lego, it has been part of my life since I was a kid which I still enjoy now. I enjoy playing with duplo with my children, having bought my daughter a large amount of it - including the motorised train set. I also buy plenty of Lego for myself - the collectable minifigs, the technic super sets and a number of other bits. I recently bought myself Ninjago and Starwars sets, and I've bought as much of the DK... Read Full Story
My Learnings

I learn new stuff, daily if I can. In fact, I go out of my way to learn. Learning is good fun, a great way to occupy my mind. Learning also sets me up with new skills to face the world with more tools in my arsenal, more ways to make the most of it and enjoy it. A lot of learning may simply be paving the way for new learning. Most of my learning is learning things others have already learned, but every now and again I stumble upon ways to do things that I've not seen someone else use before... Read Full Story
Building Lego Mecha

Lego is probably the most creative toy for a number of generations. It is quite versatile, looks pretty cool and generally comes with a guarantee of fitting together. There are a large number of piece shapes, and many of the unusual ones can be used in unusual ways to give new looks and styles to a creation. Making a mechanical monster or perhaps a mechanical hero comes quite naturally to Lego - it has a few of it's own brands - and the pieces can be set up to give that style. I've seen... Kids of a certain age, around 7-10 tend to find all things robotic absolutely fascinating. I ran a robot building group for 8-12 year olds, and as a consequence was asked to do a robot themed party for one of the members. There are many things that can make a robot themed party really awesome and party that the kids will remember for years to come. It does take a little effort, and may require some preparation. This will show how to make an arena and give the kids a change to prepare some... Read Full Story

It is a truly beautiful machine, even if it is all analogue in side, the engines and wing shape are stunning. It has now been moved, and I think it is being prepared for a plinth on the Thames, close to the London Eye - the Big wheel, sponsored by EDF... Read Full Story
Valentines Day Gifts For Geeks

Geek Guys & Geek Girls may have their head in their book or at their monitor, but they can be very romantic, and will be seriously impressed by the right gift. In fact, I would be as bold as to say that a geek may be easier to buy stuff for than a non-geek, just because they wear what they really enjoy and are interested in right on their sleeve! In fact, it can be a joy to find gifts for a geek just because of how amazing and different geek goodies can be - but be careful that you don't... Read Full Story
