Encouraging News For Those With MS
There has been a lot of talk in recent days about a new medical procedure developed by Italian researcher Dr. Paolo Zamboni, a vascular surgeon by training. Zamboni believes that multiple sclerosis is not an autoimmune condition but rather a vascular problem. He believes that clogged veins restrict the flow of blood and that by using an angioplasty-type surgery to unblock the clogged neck veins, the MS symptoms disappear.Zamboni first tried the technique on his wife, an MS sufferer. He then t... Read Full Story
The Need For Safer Long-Term Care Homes
Canadians are accustomed to surveillance cameras in their surroundings. Whether the cameras are along highways, at busy city intersections, lobbies of buildings, scattered throughout stores, at ATM’s or elsewhere, they have become so commonplace that they are now an accepted reality of life in the 21st century. The installation of video cameras is driven by need and that need is often based on risk assessment, prevention considerations or other security concerns. Those that identify the... Read Full Story
RCMP Leadership Update
In July 2007, William Elliott was appointed Commissioner of the RCMP. The following excerpt is from the internet site, Wikipedia:“Elliott was appointed the Commissioner of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police on 6 July 2007, making him the first commissioner that had not previously served in the police or military. His appointment came after the resignation of Giuliano Zaccardelli, who left the force rocked by scandal and in crisis. Reaction to Elliott's appointment was mixed. Public pe... Read Full Story
Supressing Quebecers
Parti Quebecois leader Pauline Marois wants to amend Quebec’s language law to restrict access to English daycares to only the children of parents educated in English in Canada. Marois is of the opinion that the French language, particularly in Montreal, is fading and that a stricter law would force immigrants to integrate more into the French language. While the PQ’s fears of their fading French language may be well-founded, their efforts at preserving the language with inward thi... Read Full Story

Maybe Some Solace For Worden Family
The family and friends of RCMP Constable Christopher Worden may have received some solace yesterday when Emrah Bulatci was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison, without consideration for parole for 25 years. Bulatci, who shot Worden four times, provided a pathetic defense by stating he had only intended to wound Worden. Bulatci’s attempt to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter was rightfully dismissed by the prosecution.Worden’s family l... Read Full Story
Protecting The Vulnerable
An Ottawa man, a former caregiver at a local long-term care facility, was sentenced to eight months in jail for abusing and assaulting those entrusted to his care. Ontario Superior Court Justice Colin McKinnon was too lenient in his sentencing of Allan Foubert. Placing a family member in a long-term care facility can be a heartbreaking and self-doubting decision. That decision can be a little less agonizing when you have been assured that your loved one, some vulnerable and dependent from dem... Read Full Story
Lansdowne Live 1, Glebe Protests 0
After prolonged debate accompanied by both fear-mongering comments and the occasional tear of sadness from the anti-Lansdowne Live people, our circle of confusion has given the green light to fixing Lansdowne Park. Thankfully, that’s over. Now our micro-management oriented councillors can focus their magnifying glasses on the forthcoming budget. That should be another treat in observing a day at the zoo. dbComments Read Full Story
Crunch Time @ The Circle of Confusion
It is decision time at the circle of confusion, aka: City of Ottawa Council Chambers. With councillors divided on the issue (so what’s new)of what to do with Lansdowne Park, there will be a few 11th hour motions to help sway the undecided. With one mayor and 23 wannabe mayors, or 24 cooks in the kitchen, it will take 13 chefs to allow the meal (deal) to proceed. This process is so pathetic you need to keep a sense of humour. The primary focus of this plan is football and the recent histo... Read Full Story
