Another Year and We're Still Here!
From:  dobonet.co.uk
After 8 months of refurbishing the house we pressurised and promised ourselves the “house will be done by Christmas”. Well apart from a few last minute touches and the odd door to paint, we did it and even got one of those new fangled flat screen TVs to watch the rubbish that was on TV at Christmas to boot (Debbe used her finely tuned bartering skills with the shop salesman to wangle £100 off a £600 tele – a joy to watch. It just shows you what can be done if you ... Read Full Story
The dumbest web design clients
From:  dobonet.co.uk
Came across this the other, it’s all true and cheered me up during what was inceasingly becoming a “rough day” The dumbest web design clients Nightmare projects? Stupid clients? Being a Web designer isn’t the easiest job in the world, as Gary Marshall reveals. If it weren’t for clients, Web designers would be sitting on street corners with cardboard laptops. While most of them are perfectly sensible, treat their designers well and pay for the work on time, a... Read Full Story

Ship in a Storm, Batten Down the Hatches
Ask anyone who has spent any length of time in business for themselves and they’ll say that they’ve “seen the ups and the downs” of business life. Not just for their own business, but also for those around them, whether it be their customers, suppliers or associates. It’s the way things are, have been and always will be. Forging Ahead
Phew, another hectic week of wheeling and dealing over with at work We’re well and truly on the run up to Christmas. You can tell this by the amount of pressure our clients are putting us under (and vice-versa to be honest) to get their projects launched before the festive period. Added to this I want to make some serious strides next year in forging ahead (get it with the image huh?) with our business. By this time next year I want to double our staff and turnover. So, to this end a... Read Full Story
Another Long Day
From:  dobonet.co.uk
It’s half past nine in the evening and we’ve just got in from the office. When I set up my business I ’sold it’ to Debbe (my wife), who at the time was not involved in the ‘business’, partly on the basis of “we’ll have more free time". At the time I was working in a ‘proper job’ (as my Mother would say) doing silly hours, so anything that promised less hours and more freedom seemed attractive. I honestly believed it as well! ... Networking Newbie
From:  dobonet.co.uk
Today I attended a monthly business networking event at lunchtime (I try to get along every month). I find that business networking is a good way to generate awareness of my business and ultimatley, new enquiries. When I first got into the concept some four and a bit years ago, I found them a bit daunting. but know it’s second nature and I quite enjoy them. I must admit though they are an acquired taste and not everyone likes them. Read more! » Read Full Story

For some bizarre reason I’ve yet to figure out, I took it upon myself at the weekend to set up a Facebook account and then spent the next few hours afterwards setting my profile up and looking for “friends” I could “poke". Read more! » Read Full Story
Coming to Head; Light at the End of the Tunnel etc

Well after what seems forever (in reality about 8 months), we’re now at that stage with our house renovation where we’re on the verge of completion. I reckon there’s about 2 more days work for the joiners. After that it’s decorating. This in itself I feel will take 2 weeks which is something Debbe and I will do outselves. After that, cleaning up and the purchase of some bits of furniture and the all important new tele. All just in time for Chrimble as we anticipate... Read Full Story

Portrait of Guy Fawkes
It’s that time of year again. You know, the one where we celebrate the burning of Catholics. Or, if you prefer the celebration of the foiling of a terrorist attempt at unseating the seat of English government (i.e. The Gunpowder Plot) That’s right - it’s Bonfire Night or Guy Fawkes Night if you prefer (was he just the scapegoat?) That time of year when small children venture out in the cold to see a representation of a living human being being burnt alive. Mmmm - lovely.... Read Full Story
