This week you’ve got homework

Proper relaxation is not an excuse to snooze! In my last post I was talking about the value of relaxation and how sometimes this important element of a yoga class is actually undervalued. This time I want to discuss how the relaxation pose (savasana or corpse pose) can be misunderstood. And by misunderstood I’m talking about those students who see it as time for a snooze! The idea of relaxation is to let the mind and body lay in perfect stillness but not to nod off, tempting though that... Read Full Story
How we can all benefit from laying like a corpse!
Not yet published.
Practise lying in perfect alignment I really hope you’ve tried out the relaxation pose from my last blog and are now feeling the benefit of giving yourself time to be and not do. You may even be finding that it’s actually not that easy to lay completely still, discovering exactly why this is described in traditional yoga practises as a master pose. Savasana (corpse pose or relaxation) is often undervalued, but I hope that by the end of this blog all you’ll want to do is lay down and relax... Read Full Story

Savasana or Corpse Pose As you might imagine January is a busy time for yoga classes and here at Inside Out we are no exception. We have new classes starting and lots of new students feeling the benefits of Dru Yoga. Stress relief, relaxation and energy boosting is probably the main reason people come to  Inside Out  and is also one of the main benefits our existing students tell us they get from our sessions. Happy New Year! Westborough High School, Dewsbury - Logo Hope you are all well and keeping on track with your resolutions. I had a lovely start to the new year when I took part in a wellbeing day which was run by the senior team for its staff at the Dewsbury school Westborough High School . Their day focussed on encouraging all staff to take care of themselves. What a fantastic way to kick off 2012? The school had organised a wide range of activities and seminars across a full day... New Year Resolutions?!
Not yet published.
I’m sitting here contemplating new year resolutions… and I’ve just read that at least 80% of resolutions remain unachieved! So is there any point to making them and how can yoga help you be the 1 in 5 that does achieve what you actually set out to achieve? At this point, I must confess that I am not usually big on goal setting and resolutions, however earlier this year I had something very definite that I wanted to achieve and set about using my yoga practise to make sure this happened... Don’t Let a Cold Spoil Your Christmas

A few years ago, I had a dreadful Christmas: I was in bed with ‘flu, from Christmas Eve until the day I went back to work in January – typical! I’d been so busy in the run up to Christmas with late nights and long working days, and probably not eating as well as I should, that I’d exhausted myself and didn’t listen to what my body was telling me, so no wonder I was ill. I vowed never to make that mistake again and now take much better care of myself at this busy time and I thought I’d... Read Full Story
