I was deeply saddened to learn that our friend, colleague, fellow blogger, beer drinking buddy and the certified all around artful dodger of Dodgy Business, Sam Shimek, has passed over the Great Divide.
Sam suffered a major heart attack and then could not recover from the emergency surgery. I have not yet gotten all the details surrounding his sudden departure. I will report them as they come in.
Sam was my friend. We have shared many an e-mail list, gotten together and spent time as gue... Read Full Story
I see China has successfully invaded Taiwan and Taiwan doesn't even know. 170,000 mainland women live on Taiwan, married to nice unsuspecting Taiwanese guys, the majority working class guys. Half the Women's Div of the PLA :-)
And there are another 90,000 registered marriages waiting to be . . . consummated? The officers of the Womens' Div of the PLA.
Did Mao say, Women hold up half the sky.
Did Chen whatsit say, PLA Women rule Taiwan?

I was gonna write about this Macanese thing but there's two angles; A and B.
A. Everyone in New Zealand has a lawn and lotsa people don't have time, or energy to mow them every 2-3-4 weeks so guys and gals have lawn-mowing rounds. Energetic? You can mow 10-15 lawns a day.. But Macau has no lawns and has lotsa shiny cars so the guys have car-wash rounds. If Shaniqua and Belinda want to open a hair-and-nail salon, for example, they're required to take 1,500 hours of professional training. Even at $10.00 an hour, that's $15,000 of training costs. To cut hair. As you might guess, Shaniqua and Belinda often give up.
Who does this protect? I mean, sure, a bad haircut is ... Read Full Story

Let's see, you just gave up 700 billion to "rescue the banking system", but that's OK, because they promised they were only using it to buy troubled loans, which might even make a profit, and of course then it would be paid back. Right? Well, maybe not, but nobody's saying, and you're not allowed to ask. That's about $2,500 of your or your children's wealth, so shouldn't you be entitled?
Of course, now that the barn door is open, the pigs are crowding... Read Full Story
There's been an intense global focus on American politics this election season. The end of conservative reign, the ascendance of the "new", financial crisis. Inside the borders, we mainly argue about this:

Further in our continuing coverage of pirate news, you might think this development is good for the world in general: After an attack on the Danish ship MV Powerful, Somali pirates fired on British commandos who were of course heavily armed. After a couple of pirates died in the hail of fire, the frightened remainder quickly gave way.
By the time the Royal Marines boarded the pirates’ vessel, the enemy had lost the will to fight and surrendered quietly. The Royal Navy described the bo... Read Full Story
