FINGER POWER

Pick a subject, point the camera, and push the button. The power is in that finger!

And with digital cameras, you can take multitudes of pictures, select ones you don’t want, delete them – and take more. That is the basics. For those who simply want to shoot family events or reunions, or just a shot of a gorgeous sunrise or sunset, no special skills are required. Put the camera on automatic, and use your finger power!

Digital cameras now come in such a variety of tiny packages that you can keep one on you almost everywhere you go. So that last minute shot is possible now. How many pictures you can take depends on the ‘memory card.’ After that, it depends on the picture quality you select on your camera. Of course, the battery(ies) will always need to be changed or recharged.

Once you’ve filled your ‘memory card’, just download all your pictures onto your computer, play around with them with your favorite photo imaging software (and there are many to select from, and some are free), and send them off to family as attachments in e-mails.

For the intermediate to experienced photographer, the high-end digital and digital/SLR cameras are preferred. You can choose between manual and automatic, very much like the older SLR cameras, but these digital/SLRs also pack many more features and require a bit more skill. You can play with lighting for portraits, or shutter speed for action shots – pretty much all the bells and whistles that the older SLRs have/had. Many digital/SLRs now even allow you to change lenses.

The greatest difference is that you can view your newly taken shot in the view window, and delete it right then and there, or later… if you don’t find it pleasing. There’s no trip to the local film-developing store…no waiting, only to find out you over-exposed a shot; and there is little chance you can recreate it. With a digital camera, you can very possibly re-capture that shot within seconds to minutes. It is a wonderful invention. Your creativity is only limited by your imagination.

Get out there and memorialize your life!
