Optical splitter woes

Got a PS3 and Xbox360 both needing to use the same optical in on my amp. Ive got a 2 in 1 out spliiter, and a 3 in 1 out switch style splitter. The PS3 sound is great, works in any of the splitter "ports". But the 360 sound goes no where, cant hear a peep.. Any ideas?

Is the 360 optical out signal particularly weak and not able to handle a splitter?
