The Real Power Of Twitter For Dental Marketing

I’ve read a lot of blog posts from dental marketing experts that are questioning the use of Twitter as a viable Dental Marketing tool.

They refuse to think that Twitter has any use in the dental world and proclaim it somewhat as a fad.

I agree with them for the most part. Twitter is full of people that have no need for your services, and many could care less about you.

But there are a few things that Twitter can help you do.

1. Use the search to see what people are talking about.

The search function is a huge bonus for Twitter, and it is the reason Google and many others are interested in it. The best thing about search is it displays user generated information in real time!

I did a search for “Dental Implants” and came up with this:

That’s some good info if you are selling implants. (I agree that the screws in your jaw don’t look to appetizing.)

And this one:

A post about pricing… Obviously this was quite a shock to somebody… could be good research for where to put your price point.

After seeing those results I did a search for the term “Dentist.”

Notice first of all that a few of these were posted while the person was getting treatment!

Here’s a post directly from the dentist office, talking about the dental terminology. Dental terms can confuse those non-dentists out there, and possibly scare some off:

Here’s another one directly from the dentist chair. The fact that people can spread info this fast should make your level of service climb greatly. If you don’t have good clinical skills, or give good customer service, this should scare the hell out of you.

Here is one that deals with a big time reason people don’t return to the dentist… embarrassment. They are embarrassed because they took too much time off, and know that they may get berated for it having been so long. You’d be surprised at how much this happens.

And the final one in this search is one that shows a persons relative displeasure about her dentist leaving:

Don’t just monitor the major keywords… make sure to monitor yourself and your practice as well… just for fun, I typed in “EMC Dental” to see what popped up, and surprisingly, I found that 5 people had sent out a message about my blog post called “10 Tips on Using The Internet To Market Your Dental Practice.

So, the point of the whole article is to realize that Twitter is more than just a networking tool. It can also give you valuable real-time information about how to present your services, and how people are talking about your profession.

It can also tell you what people think about you.
