We have all seen and laughed at awful local advertising spots. Typically they involve a used car salesman OR a furniture salesman wearing a costume and embarrassing himself by singing/ rapping/ dancing badly. Sometimes the salesman’s dog or kids are added into the mix to really class it up.
Down in rural Alabama, however, an innovative new strategy has emerged in a spot that challenges the local badvertising status quo — Tell The Truth. I am not just talking about typical hones... Read Full Story

They happen everyday. They are the things that things that mean the most to you — a compliment, a friendly gesture, something your child did that pulls a heartstring, a lucky break. Ironically they are the things that probably go unnoticed 80% of the time because we are all too damn busy to appreciate them.
Walmart recently launched an amazing TV spot that highlights all of the little things that we should really slow down enough to capture.
Think about your last 48 hours. What are s... Read Full Story

I stumbled across these cartoons last week & was blown away. These cartoons are not only hilarious, but are also quite accurate in explaining each of the wars all summed up in a tidy cartoon board. The author behind these funny history lessons is Angus McLeod, and he has a site that displays all of his great work that you should check out.
(Disclaimer — I am a huge history geek that can get stuck on the history channel for hours for anything from WW1 & 2 or a biography on Herb... Read Full Story

Good question normally for someone like me. See the pics below for my answer.
Microsoft charged headfirst into the retail store arena today as a 2nd boom to echo the Windows 7 launch that also occured today. I spent the last three months travelling between VA and WA to participate in what can be best described as trying to paint a picasso from ontop of a fire truck going 100mph.
Tired, but damn it feels good to see that all those people are jammed into the store on Day 1.
(Oh and btw, my... Read Full Story

I normally don’t pay attention to car commercials. I appreciate some sexy car porn videography as much as the next ad geek, but let’s be honest they all sort of look the same.
It’s funny what a great song can do to help make you look up and watch a commercial. I did a doubletake when I looked up and realized that it was Lincoln that applied these cool tunes. Who? Lincoln…I thought they were dead, or at least most of their core customers were really old.

I did a double-take this morning when I saw a bunch of 300 pound NFL linemen wearing pink cleats, gloves, etc.
Brilliant partnership & execution for Breast Cancer Awareness. They could have just ran a bunch of awareness TV spots, but how they have integrated it into the game is so much more effective. They took it even farther and have incorporated a similar approach online to subtly-yet-noticeably integrate pink into all of the NFL online activity as well.
Kudos to the team of people... Read Full Story

Google is releasing a new tool called SideWiki which will allow people to read/ post/ share comments about any page on the Internet. The tool comes as an install for the Google toolbar and would show up as a right-side alley on your browser. Given how popular and helpful sites like Yelp are this sounds like a brilliant tool (and so simple too — dammit why did I not think of this).

With every hardback book sale that the Kindle kills, a little part of one of my childhood dreams dies with it.
Maybe I watched too many Disney movies as a kid. You know which ones …for some reason they were all set somewhere in Europe in right before WW2 broke out …whatever the plot of the movie was they live in a massively huge estate that was passed down through the generations and one of the rooms inside of it is this enormous study/ library with thousands of books sitting in... I got an email yesterday that made me get choked up a little bit, and go “WOW!” in awe too. The near tear was from fatherly love for my awesome son, and the wow moment was because what my 5 yr old son had done made me realize that the iPhone is by far the most user friendly device in the evolution of technology and it is singlehandedly changing how people will expect to use tech in their lives.
To set the backstory on this little event. As I mentioned in a previous post, I have ... Read Full Story

I would like to preface the following post by admitting freely that I hate hanging pictures with a passion. I enjoy having nice pictures on our walls, but the act of hanging them is brutal from a husband POV …
Husband stands awkwardly holding picture in what seems to be centered
Wife says “A little to the (right/left) about 10 times
Husband says “It’s good!” in frustration and starts hammering in nail/hanger/device
Wife/ Husband view newly hung picture together... Read Full Story
