There seems to be always a debate between religion and those that claim to be atheist. There are writers like Richard Dawkins who have stimulated this debate. I for one highly encourage this discussion. All Religion needs to be totally questioned. What has been done in the name of religion by so-called religious people is what has been the major source of madness on the planet. Whether God is dead or not is in much greater hands as a matter of our own perso... Read Full Story

This phrase came to me the other day and I decided I wanted to write a blog post using this for my title. As I regularly do, I write mindfully listening inward for inspiration and guidance. My first thought was about a client I work with who has become an excellent practitioner of mindfulness. The tough guy who kept his heart blocked from years of being abused as a child has blossomed into a conscious and loving human being. This blossoming is the product of a watching... Read Full Story

Lately in my reading and work the idea of expanding our compassion has been on my mind. In this issue of ODE magazine Religion author Karen Armstrong writes about compassion and asks all people and religions to be guided by compassion. She says compassion is the heart of all religious teachings. Compassion is about having an open heart while seeking to understand yourself and others.
The following are ideas to help you expand your compassionate heart, give them a try a... Read Full Story

These times are not for expanding our commitment of troops into Afghanistan. The military is not who you need to consult about this because they are driven by ego and ego has only made a bigger mess out of bad situations. There is no chance of victory, look at the history of other wars in this country, look at Vietnam for a further history lesson. The people of Afghanistan don't want us occupying their country no more than we want other nations occupying the United States.&n... Read Full Story

It seems as I look at my recent blog posts that I have gotten into being a list writer. I have felt very inspired lately and the ideas just start to flow. “When you are unoccupied for a few minutes, especially last thing at night before falling asleep and the first thing in the morning before getting up, flood your body with consciousness. Close your eyes. Lie flat on your back. Choose different parts of your body to focus your attention on briefly at first: hands, feet, arms, legs, abdomen, chest, head and so on. Feel the life energy (light) inside those parts as intensely as you can. Stay with each part for... Read Full Story

Of course you can. Most likely you were raised by parents who lived by a set of values and rules for behavior. They passed those values onto you. As an adult you may have revised those values/rules to fit with your view of the world. The point is you have values and guidelines for behavior. (I purposefully left out the 10 Commandments since they are too religious for me.) Here are rules of human behavior that seem worth following today: 1. ... Read Full Story

Lately my mind seems to be in this mode of inquiry. I was thinking about, "what are you and I are made of?" in search for a deeper understanding of our essence. We are not simple creatures but incredibly complex in so many ways. The following is what I was able to come up with about who we are: • There are organs, brain matter, tissues, muscle, bone, cells, and particles.• There is the collective history of humankind in our ... The simple secret is, "Just Show Up." This is really not a closely kept secret but it remains out of most people's awareness because they are rarely if ever fully present for their own lives. When you show up success is guaranteed because this is the optimal state for making anything happen that you desire. If you show up your career blossoms, your relationships thrive, your inner sense of self is rich, and you discover joy and love are natural products of being fully presen... Read Full Story

Today’s blog wanders from my usual topics of consciousness, personal growth, progressive politics and working towards a better world. It is about a life long passion that you might or might not identify with. It is about being a sports fan and Tuesday evening was a big night for me. When I was a kid, I use to listen to the Portland Buckaroos of the Western Hockey League on the radio. That was when I became a real sports fan. When Portland got a NBA te... Read Full Story
