Thumbs Up to Thumbnail Generators
From:  farroutlinks.net
I often use web screenshots when creating online activities for younger students. A thumbnail shot gives students a preview image they can click on to go to a link. I have found that thumbnail images that serve as a hyper link are easier for younger students to click on than hyper linked text. In the past the process I used to create my thumbnail screen shots was tedious and time-consuming (print screen, open Photoshop, crop the image, resize, and save). The thumbnail generator I am shari... Read Full Story
Giving Thanks
From:  farroutlinks.net
I cherish the memory of my close knit family and appreciate the fact that my Grandmother insisted on taking photographs around the dinner table (as we all posed and endured her request). While I will miss many of the family members who sat around the table in my youth, I look forward to sharing time with my children and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. Read Full Story
Do Schools Kill Creativity?
From:  farroutlinks.net
I’m attending NYSCATE, the annual conference for New York State Association for Computers and Technologies in Education. As always, the conference has been engaging, exciting, and renewing! I will try to add to this post a bit later this evening, but I did want to share the marvelous keynote given by Sir Ken Robineson: Do Schools Kill Creativity? Read Full Story
A few things I have learned after 300 days of blogging…
From:  farroutlinks.net
Today officially marks my 300th day of blogging. Three hundred days ago I made an internal pact with myself to blog every day for a year. I should point out that Julie, Julia had not yet been released, so I can confidently assure you that I was not influenced by the movie. So why did I make this pact? At the time I was unemployed (originally, I was leaving one school to work for another; the school I was moving to canceled the position at the last minute on the heals of Patterson’s... Web 2.0 Swirl and Twirl
From:  farroutlinks.net
Novelist James A. Michener once said, “I love writing. I love the swirl and swing of words as they tangle with human emotions.” I would venture to say that you could substitute the phrase Web 2.0 apps for words. Well, at least I could…”I love Web 2.0 apps. I love the swirl and swing of Web 2.0 apps as they tangle with human emotions.” In other words, I am constantly amazed by the new applications and resources that continue to evolve on the web. Have you had a chance to ... Read Full Story

60+ Fraction-related Activities and Resources
From:  farroutlinks.net
My current job entails working with teacher K-12 in a number of school districts across our region. The person I replaced was a real math pro. I often find myself re-teaching myself math concepts that got put on the back burner several years ago (more than I would like to admit to). Now…that doesn’t mean that I can’t figure out change or use every day math with little effort, but it does mean that I have had to revisit the nuances of math. I have spent a lot of time seek...
