Questions and Answers
Good Morning,
I wanted to answer some of your questions you had lately.
What exactly is a crowder pea?

Click here> Crowder Peas for information on the crowder and cow peas from southeast U.S.A.
Do you shuck those yourself or take them somewhere?
Here is my shucker/pea sheller: Farm Man-plus I am also a full time pea sheller lately too.

Have you ever just put your shelled peas in a pillowcase?
No, but I have read about putting peas in a pillowcase and freezing them. I have used gallon freezer bags this time. I lost count but think I have around 12 gallons froze so far.
How do you keep the insects out of the garden without using pesticides?
Guineas. They check the garden every morning and every evening for bugs. They do have a tendency to peck any and all tomatoes though. I am happy to say though, the peas and corn had very few insects on and in them this year.

Do you plan on using the water wheel for generating power?
We have plans on using a generator that farm man bartered for, to generate electricity some day.

Is Jack a gelding?
Yes, Jack was "fixed" before he came to live here on the farm.

Have you ever thought of getting Jack a Ginny(girl donkey) so he wouldn't be so in love with Belle?
We did get another donkey but Jack was a little mean to her. She went to live at another farm. Jack only has eyes for Belle.

What kind of cow is Belle?
Belle is a Jersey Cow. Jerseys are excellent milk producers.

Do you milk Belle or Bessie?
No. Belle and Bessie are still nursing their calves, Luke and Buckeye. Maybe later.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask away.
I am off to the garden now. Can you believe I still have more peas, green beans, corn, tomatoes and other vegetables to pick, freeze and can?
I hope you all have a great day!
