The Chicago Bears Hire Jeremy Bates to be Quarterback Coach

Jay Cutler was coming into his own last season. Yesterday may very well be the final piece to the development of Cutler. The Bears hired his former quarterback coach from the Denver Broncos Jeremy Bates yesterday. Bates was Cutler’s coach during his Pro Bowl season of 2009. Bates shunned the Bears two years earlier when the team was looking for an offensive coordinator. Bates instead took the same role with the Seattle Seahawks and Pete Carroll. He was fired at the end of the season. As... Read Full Story

Lessons for the Chicago Bears from Super Bowl XLVI
| From : rantsports.com

I really hope the Chicago Bears organization watched the Super Bowl closely. The bar is now set for what this organization needs to do in order to win a Lombardi Trophy. There’s a talent gap on the Bears in essential positions. For those of us that watch this team week in and week out, yesterday’s game should have been the slap-in-the-face about the areas where the Chicago Bears need to improve. The Giants have three wide receivers that would be the number one target on the Bears. How would... Read Full Story
The Peter Principle…Welcome to the Chicago Bears

In my last blog ( click here ), I made mention of the Peter Principle. To refresh your memories, it was written by Dr. Lawrence J. Peter and Raymond Hull in 1969 in a book that shares that title. On top of many other things, it is famous for noting that  in a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence . The more I think about the Chicago Bears, the more this organization exemplifies this logic. I’ve been on enough tirades about newly hired GM Phil Emery, I would... Read Full Story
More Reaction to New Chicago Bears General Manager Phil Emery
| From : rantsports.com
Published to NFL
As angry as I was when I heard the new on Saturday about Phil Emery becoming the Chicago Bears General Manager, I’m even more fired up today. This was a typical move out of Halas Hall to find someone on the cheap. I had such high hopes for George McCaskey and Ted Phillips, and instead this whole process became a disgrace. The Chicago Bears hired a guy that other teams didn’t even consider for the position. I guess Emery is great at remembering coffee orders and sharpening pencils. Emery’s... Read Full Story
Chicago Bears Hire Phil Emery as General Manager…From Bad to Worse
| From : rantsports.com
Published to NFL
In a move that makes me want to cancel my season tickets and become a monk, the Chicago Bears embraced bad football by hiring Kansas City Director of College Scouting Phil Emery to replace Jerry Angelo as General Manager. It’s perhaps the darkest day in franchise history. Who the hell left Ted Phillips in charge of this search? He’s hired a guy from a franchise that has a worse record than the Bears. Instead of being an attempt to close the talent gap with the Green Bay Packers, it’s an... Read Full Story
Six Random Thoughts on the Chicago Bears GM Search…
| From : rantsports.com

1. Why the hell is Tim Ruskell not been totally eliminated from the GM conversation? It’s sweet that the Chicago Bears gave him an interview, but he should be officially out of the picture. His track record in Seattle makes Jerry Angelo look like Ted Thompson of the Packers on draft day. Just because the guy is around doesn’t make him a front runner. Welcome to Chicago Bears logic… 2. Phil Emery is many insiders frontrunner for the GM job. Did anyone notice that the Kansas City Chiefs have... Read Full Story
Phil Emery Reported Frontrunner for Chicago Bears GM Position
| From : rantsports.com

Multiple reports and sources are pointing to Phil Emery bing the Chicago Bears top choice to replace former General Manager Jerry Angelo. Emery is currently the Kansas City Chiefs Director of College Scouting and worked for the Chicago Bears as an area scout from 1998-2004. This seems to be a disaster waiting to happen. If this guy’s been such a top NFL man, why has it taken him so long to be considered as a GM candidate with any organization? It seems to me like this is a move being done... Read Full Story

The Rays have signed Carlos Pena to be the 1B/DH option for the 2012 season.  The Rays signed him to a one year 7.25M dollar contract for the 2012 season.  In 2011, Pena posted a .225/.357/.462 triple slash line to go along with 28HR, 80 RBI, and 68 Runs.  So, are the Rays getting what they paid for out of the soon to be 34 year old first baseman? Pena has been a model of consistency.  In eleven seasons as a pro, Pena has averaged 34HR, 96 RBI, 83 Runs to go along with a .239/.352/.486 line... Read Full Story

Carlos Pena recently signed with the Rays, giving Tampa another left handed bat to boost their lineup. He’s taking a bit of a paycut, as Pena agreed to a deal worth $7.25M for one year. Pena had a solid rebound season with the Cubs, hitting 225/357/462 with 28 home runs and 80 runs driven in with just 500 under PA. More importantly, Pena showed he could still crush right handed...
