Lots of Americans do not have health insurance, mostly because of their working conditions. Several groups fall between the cracks: part-timers, free agents, and students for a start. Together with companies cutting prices and cutting budgets, employee benefits such as health care are typically the first thing to be compromised. Still many people do not realize how effortless it is to get reasonably inexpensive coverage. If you’re one of the 50 million workers lacking health insurance, ... Read Full Story

If you feel powerless against the forces of nature, I have some answers for you. In Scottsdale, Arizona last weekend at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch, I heard about the latest tools available to address anti-aging, immune science, superfoods and… a bonus (read on). Orenda International held their semi-annual Leadership School which I’ve come to depend on as my source of breaking news on these issues. It was an awesome event (and I don’t just ... Read Full Story

According to a study recently published in the Diabetes journal and presented at the Second International Congress on Physical Activity and Public Health, sitting for long periods virtually shut down one of the body’s best fat-fighting tools, the enzyme lipase.
What does this mean? They found: raised levels of HDL (”bad”) cholesterol, metabolism slowed and more fat was retained in the body. Bad news!
Recommendation: Get up and move around! Don’t just sit for exten... Read Full Story

Continuing on my theme (from the last posting) of stress reduction, one of the major sources of stress is lack of sleep. That can be caused by quantity or quality (i.e. you sleep but not very well). So I could tell you to try to get more and better sleep - and you should - but instead I’m going to suggest a time-tested ‘quick fix’ - The Nap. And I can do no better than to refer you to this terrific little piece from the Boston Globe.
Over 75% of us are sleep-deprived. S... Read Full Story

It occurs to me that I haven’t written about one of my favorite tools for relieving stress, Holosync. And, judging by the response of people I’ve turned on to it, they love it, too. Why wouldn’t they?
You get:
a tool that allows you to quickly meditate deeper than a Zen monk in no time
a support line to call for questions about the experience you’re having
a one-year no-strings satisfaction guarantee
And it’s as easy as
pop in the CD
put on your headphones

When we’re born, we are 90% water. As adults, we’re only 70% water and by the time we die, that number has dropped to just 50%. Long slow death by dehydration. No wonder many older folks look like they’re “dried out” - they literally are! And the tragedy is it is avoidable! Cheaply and easily!
No, it’s not simply a matter of drinking lots of water (although that’s an excellent idea). There’s more to it than that. I could write a... Read Full Story

This is not breaking news but many will find it surprising. According to a study at the University of Auckland in New Zealand reported by the BBC, the conventional wisdom of supplementing with calcium has been found to increase the risk of heart attacks. The group studied was postmenopausal women, a segment of the population that has long been relying upon the belief that they should take 1000mg or more a day to prevent osteoporosis, among other things.
While it’s not part of mainstre... Read Full Story

OK, now will you show me some love? :-)
Seriously, this is a clever use of technology to create viral marketing. I thought I’d pass it along to those of you who have a message you want to get out - cheap and fast. It’s called viral because it spreads like a virus. You can’t PAY for this kind of publicity! Try it yourself. Read Full Story
