We woke up this morning with rockclimbing in Squamish on our minds...but a quick phone call to our friends Jay and Milissa reveled an even better plan. Rockclimb with them at Sully's Hangout, in North Vancouver. So off we went. Now, you wouldn't think this is a big deal.....but you must consider the fact that there were 6 of us and %50 of us were under the age of 3. Who says you can't rockclimb with kids? I'll tell you what...a little effort, some really understanding friends, and some great... Read Full Story

Been crazy lately. Oh well. Here's a little update on Elizabeth: Elizabeth is now 3.5 months old. She coo's and caa's regularly, smiles a ton, consistently sleeps 11 hours a night but doesn't know how to calm herself to sleep....so we pat and shush her to sleep most naps and nights. Hopefully one day, she'll be able to sooth herself to sleep. Here's an update on a recent rock climbing trip: Still climbing and having fun. Spent the day with some friends yesterday in Squamish. ...and yes, that... Read Full Story

Thanks to Paddy Ducklow blog , I was reminded of a story I have told quite a few times...yet until now, didn't know from who it came. Now I know, it's Richard Selzer's story: “I stand by the bed where a young woman lies, her face postoperative, her mouth twisted in palsy, clownish. A tiny twig of the facial nerve, the one to the muscles of her mouth, has been severed. The surgeon had followed with religious fervor the curve of her flesh; I promise you that. Nevertheless, to remove the tumor... Read Full Story

I thought my addiction could not get any worse. It did. I am a baby sneezing addict. When my kid sneezes...I laugh and want her to do it again. Now...she giggles...and my addiction has grown to new levels. Here she is in her super cute Easter outfit given to her by our very thoughtful Aunti Diana. Thanks Diana...she (we) loved it! Now I need her to sneeze and giggle at the same time...THAT WOULD BE CRAZY! Maybe I should wear a shirt which has pollen soked flowers attached to it and then dance... Read Full Story

They say that in grief to let yourself feel whatever you feel. A friend of mine recently asked me how I was doing. I responded like this: "You know the ache you get after a substantial surgery. My ache lingers....but its a livable ache ..." In grief...if I feel an ache...let myself feel that ache, right? Screw that. Who want's to live with an ache? Not really hurting...not really well...the ache just sits annoyingly in between. So am I to let myself feel whatever I feel? OK fine. I consent. I... Read Full Story

Two good articles here from Prof. John Stackhouse ...well worth our attention: on Good Friday on Easter And a good John Stackhouse quote from "A Palm Sunday Thought" (go check out his blog...and if you like it, subscribe to it...it's good): Lo, your King comes to you, mighty and imposing, if also in need of protection, in an armoured limousine surrounded by bodyguards, police motorcycles, helicopters, and SWAT teams. Armies and brass bands march before and after. Resplendent banners hang from... Read Full Story

There was a time in my life when the sight of paw prints..made me both scared and sad. Young men...baggy clothes...and tattoos of a dog paw on exposed sin was a symbol of deep pain colliding with a fighters heart. I used to serve young men, gang members ages 16-24 who had criminal records, dropped out of school, and had addictions. Today, God's called me to serve in Vancouver's richest neighborhood. The life I once lived seems like a shadow. And while that makes me sad...it also makes me... Read Full Story
