My Thorn in the Flesh ... Right Between the Eyes
Today's second reading is one of my favorite epistle passages ... It presents a human side of St. Paul to which I can readily relate -- can't you? (From 2 Corinthians 12:7-10.)"... because of the abundance of the revelations,a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness." No one kno... Read Full Story

Usually I say something about a marriage being a partnership, how each partner needs to trust God to work through the other person to reveal His will and His timing. While these things are true, after seeing Pixar’s latest offering today I will add the following caveat. “Take ... In Memory: Rest in Peace, Father Roger
There are some priests for whom the title "Father" seems especially apt. For me, Father Roger was "Father" in every sense of the word. Shortly after I moved to Ann Arbor and started attending St. Thomas (1994), I made an appointment to chat with him -- I wanted to find out what the needs were in the parish, and offer my services if I could be of use. (What can I say? I was a brand-new Catholic, and didn't know any better.) After listening to me for several minutes, he smiled and murmured, "... Read Full Story
