Turning the other cheek?
This man was convicted of killing 270 in 1988 by placing a bomb on Pan Am flight 103 which exploded mid-air over Lockerbie, Scotland. Today, he was released by the Scottish Government on ‘compassionate’ grounds as he is suffering terminal cancer and has been allowed to return to Libya where we can live his ‘remaining days with dignity’. Where was his compassion when he plotted to murder 270 innocent people? The only way he should have returned home was the same was as thy 270 people he killed... Read Full Story
My shame
Have you ever had an experience where you know something to be true but when you’re actually faced with it, it scares you? This happened to me today. So as my loyal readers will know from previously posted pictures over the last few years, I usually keep my hair trimmed. Short, one could say. This was (and I’m expecting comments to the contrary) by choice, rather than necessity. Move forward to this year, busy schedule, hectic pace of life, I didn’t get around to getting my hair cut. As it st... Read Full Story
Turn it down
On trip to my grocery store last night, I saw this in the freezer. They have ‘issues’ with their freezer - namely it keeps breaking down and they just let the products thaw and then refreeze. Good luck in picking your favourite Ben and Jerry’s flavour from this lot. Read Full Story
Isn't this the best sorry card ever?
There still are nice people out there
So obviously not all my neighbours are as inconsiderate as I thought. Well actually, I think 99% of them are, but this is what the generous 1% did. I spotted this sign walking back form the metro. Someone has taken the time to get some bright coloured card and attach a sign to the traffic lights highlighting the fact some keys were found. It’s nice to see that thoughtful people still exist. A trip to nowhere
So I take a train for an hour from Madrid then trek 17 miles UPHILL (ok, it was more like 2 miles, but it most certainly was uphill) to find that the place I wanted to visit was closed on Mondays. Not Happy.I arrive at El Escorial and approach the ticket window. The conversation goes something like this (but it was in Spanish):Anthony: Wassup! Can I buy a ticket for one?Guy at ticket window (GATW): For tomorrow?Anthony: No, for today.GATW: It’s closed on MondaysAnthony: Really?GATW: Yep!Antho... Read Full Story
Pelea de toros
Now, before you all get your knickers in a knot, I’m neither for nor against bull fighting. Please don’t consider me some savage. I did however make a conscience choice to attend el Pelea de toros – a bull fight – this evening, here in Madrid. While some consider it ‘culture’ and others, including many Spanish, consider it barbaric. I went along for a look. For those unfamiliar with the sport, it involves six bulls being killed by a bunch of mean wearing very tight clothes and ballerina shoes... Read Full Story
Mosque of Christ of the Light .... que?
So I decided to make a trip from Madrid to Toledo today to visit the former capital of Spain. Despite following directions from the guide book to a tee, either they changed the bus terminal from where buses leave or the guide book gave the incorrect information. After arriving at what I thought was the correct bus terminal I discovered it wasn't. A helpful man at the information counter pointed me the right way. I went to jump back on the metro to find the correct bus station but that section... Read Full Story
Exploring Madrid
After breaking the ice machine in the hotel last night, I decided to make myself scarce today so I decided to head into town to have a look around. I’ve only been to Madrid once before so decided to explore a little more. My previous visit was in January and although it wasn’t freezing, it’s certainly nicer to explore the city in the warmth. Thankfully, I have my walking shoes with me :-)Plaza MayorPalacio Real (Royal Palace) Serano ham .... mmmmm!Paella Read Full Story
