About Nuking Mecca....
Throughout this extended "primary" season, I've held a soft spot in my heart for Tom Tancredo. You could call it a "one-issue fixation," namely illegal immigration, but when I think of all the ramifications of illegal immigration, it's toleration by our elected leaders, greedy business owners, and well-intentioned by sadly deluded liberals, illegal immigration isn't a single issue at all. It's a sub-category in a larger category: Respect for the rule of law. Tancredo's remarking that nuking... Read Full Story
Bush the Chameleon
Hey, if you’re like me I’m sure you’ve been comforted by Bush finally sharing with the masses his measure of success in Iraq. See, we now have moved on from getting Osama dead or alive, moved on from eliminating the imminent threat of WMDs launched from Saddam’s patrol boats cruising our eastern seaboard, moved on from simply removing Saddam from power, moved on from transplanting democracy, to Bush's latest war rationale and measure of success: Either we’ll succeed, or we won’t succeed... The Value of Being Armed
The Virginia Tech massacre has not, as yet, brought a big public outcry for new gun-control laws. That may be the silver lining to this unexpected massacre. I know it's brought a few new thoughts to me. I'm convinced I need to arm myself, and not for my personal safety. As I, like many, contemplated the horrific events of that day, over and over again I came to this conviction: Had I been there, I would have done anything possible to stop the slaughter. Had I had accesss to a gun, I'm... Read Full Story
We Agree with the Shiites
OK, here it goes - I'm not trying to push anyone's buttons here, rather, stir discussion. Two days after the Viriginia Tech massacre, I saw this news article: Baghdad Car-Bomb Attacks Kill at Least 166 People By Robin Stringer April 18 (Bloomberg) -- Car bombings in Baghdad killed at least 166 people in the worst violence in the capital since the U.S. military began a troop ``surge'' two months ago aimed at ending attacks. A car bomb at a market in the mainly Shiite Muslim district of al... Read Full Story
Who Are the "Whackos"
It’s more than a theory; it’s a modern-day disease. Twenty-first century America is infected with paranoids espousing various conspiracy theories. In a word, these people are “whackos.” Their characteristics? They disallow any dissenting opinions. In fact, they assault anyone challenging “their ‘reasoning’ and reject any effort whatsoever to question any aspect of their carefully created stack of cards,” in the words of a friend. Continuing with my friend’s words: “Because you see to the... Read Full Story
The IQ of Half a Brick
In the fifth year of the Iraq War, the miscalculations, distortions, and outright incompetence of President Bush’s administration continue being brought to light, undeniable except for those who remain in that fuzzy cocoon cut off from the light of day, inside of which the song, “He’s the One Who Will Protect Us” still plays, endlessly, mindlessly, in denial of reality. The latest “revelation” from here. Insider: Missteps Soured Iraqis on U.S. By CHARLES J. HANLEY NEW YORK (AP) - In a... Read Full Story

The Nuances of Neoconservatism
I'm just befuddled, past my normal point of befuddlement that is. I post on a number of politically aware sites, where the average poster's political knowledge is well-above average. And still, I read comments like these practically anytime I use the word neocon or neoconservative. "In it's contemporary usage, the term is completely useless!" "Liberals use the term to describe any republican who is too right wing for their tastes and conservatives use the term to describe any republican... Read Full Story
Confessions of a New (not neo) Conservative
Time for a confession. I'm a conservative. Oh, I'm a "new" conservative, which, I've discovered some people believe makes a person a neo (new) conservative. Although I am a new conservative, calling me a neoconservative amounts to "fightin' words" to me. In my new identity, I share company with others who understand and practice conservatism. To a person, they are former Republicans who feel disenfranchised, and rightly so, by the conservative pretenders who've dominated US domestic and... Read Full Story
