Domestic Violence Lessons in Schools – New Government Plans
Around one million women are victims of domestic violence at least once a year (that’s just shy of 1 in 60!) according to the British Crime Survey statistics outlined in the BBC’s recent report on a new Government scheme aimed at stamping out  domestic violence at a grassroots level (source). Patient Waiting Times Increasing
Patients in Scotland are facing an average wait of almost 2 hours in hospital casualty departments. The good news is that this falls within the national waiting time targets of four hours. The bad news? Waiting times are increasing. China Executes Two Men Responsible for Deadly Milk
Two men have been executed in China following their role in a scandal involving tainted milk powder. The powder resulted in the death of six children and left more than 300,000 other infants ill. According to the BBC, the milk powder became contaminated with melamine, an industrial chemical used in the making of plastics and fertilisers. Violent Attacks on the Increase
The mirror.co.uk has reported the story of the lady who was the victim of a violent carjacking which left her fighting for her life. Caroline Jonhson has been left wheelchair bound after a drug addict stole her car whilst she was scraping ice from the wind shield (source). Severe Flooding Prompts Bridge Safety Review
Safety reviews are being conducted on all 1,800 bridges in Cumbria following severe flooding in the area. Six bridges have already collapsed in the area and a further bridge has been condemned due to suspicions it may be about to fall. Bonfire Celebration May be Extinguished Following Burns Disaster
A traditional Bonfire night celebration may come to an end after two men suffered serious burns in a tar barrel explosion. According to the BBC, the event involves flaming tar barrels being carried through Ottery St Mary in Devon and has been ongoing since the 17th Century. Passengers to Sue Aircraft Manufacturer Following Plane Crash
10 passengers who survived a crash on a Boeing 777 aircraft which occurred near Heathrow airport are to sue the aircraft manufacturer. The flight was travelling between Beijing and London in January 2008. All 152 passengers survived the crash but several suffered injury as a result of the incident. Hospital to be Prosecuted over Mother’s Death
It seems that the tragedy of medical negligence has again hit the news, with BBC reporting of a Mother’s fatal heart attack after a drug was incorrectly administered.
