Sermon Synopsis 11/29/09 - He will be called ... Wonderful Counsellor
For those of us who are parents I think you would agree that naming a child can be a very difficult process. I remember how difficult it was for Lauren and me to decide the names of our daughters. When it comes to naming a child there seems to be all these rules that nobody ever tells you about. Rules like: If you or your spouse ever dated someone with a certain name then that name is off limits. Or if your parents or your spouses parent had a name that they did not like or they thought w... I'm so glad I am part of the family of God!
I think most people who grew in the church are familiar with Bill Gaither's song "Family of God." Some may find it a bit corny now but I wholeheartedly agree with the message of the song. The truth of this song was demonstrated to me on Tuesday afternoon.Late Tuesday afternoon I started to feel VERY dizzy. So dizzy that I couldn't even keep my balance. I was at the church at the time and I called Lauren to come pick me up. With great effort I managed to get myself up the stairs so I coul... Read Full Story
Kill your stress before it kills you!
Over the last 13.5 years of being a pastor I have felt the negative effects of stress many times. One of those times was very serious for me. It was 4 days before Christmas, Lauren was due to give birth to our second daughter any day and I was madly preparing for a wedding that was taking place the next day plus the two services that I was leading on Sunday. Needless to say, I was stressed! I hadn't felt well all week but then it escalated to having incredible pain in my chest and arm. ... Read Full Story
Make a difference in someone else's life today!
Someone sent me this powerful story this morning. It is a true story by Helice Bridges. Below is the story in its entirety. Click here to watch a video version of it:A teacher in New York decided to honor each of her seniors in high school by telling them the difference they each made. She called each student to the front of the class, one at a time. First she told each of them how they had made a difference to her and the class. Then she presented each of them with a blue ribbon imprinted ... Read Full Story
Jesus took God's wrath for me
I love reading the gospels. This morning I read Matthew 27. This is account of Jesus trial and crucifixion. I can't even remember how many times I have read this chapter. I am sure it is in the hundreds of times (or more). Even though this is a familiar passage to me God allowed me to read it with fresh eyes again (as He always does. That's the incredible blessing of God's word - you can read it over and over again and still learn new truths!)As I was reading Matthew 27, verse 46 stuck... Read Full Story

Why do we miss opportunities?
I love that quote from Wayne Gretzky! It is so true! We miss so many opportunities by simply failing to try. The fact is that we will never know if something will succeed or not it we never step out and do it. I read this very challenging post from Perry Noble's blog today where Perry lists five reasons why we miss opportunities. Here it is in it's entirety:Last month while reading the book of Jeremiah God slammed me with Jeremiah 46:17… Pharaoh was a leader…he had potential…but for some... Read Full Story
